10 months post op-very swollen stomach
Just wondering-- My TAH was 10 mth. ago, and I look like I am 4-5 months pregnant. That is how I looked when I went in to have 400 gm Uterus taken out?? shouldn't my stomach be "a little" flatter?? When I wake up in the morning my tummy is flat- But by the end of the day, my pants are so tight, they actually leave an indentation (sp?). I know your suppossed to have swelly belly for a while, but I think that 10 months is a little much!! So, Just want to hear from my sisters if anyone is in the same boat?? The bloat and heaviness is getting on my nerves
Thanks for your help!!

Re: 10 months post op-very swollen stomach
Hi Pixey38,
I just posted the same thing in the Post Op forum about a week ago - didn't get much response though I am having the same issues. I kept thinking this would go away, but it has not. I initially gained quite a bit of weight, but have been on weight watchers since March and excercising, but my stomach (which used to be relatively flat) has developed quite a roll which hangs over a crease (kinda like where a c-section scar might be). It is heavy and uncomfortable and visibly noticeable. It fells like I have water balloons in my lower abdomen. I am getting frustrated.....

thanks spiceyredhead--It just makes you feel better when you know it not just you--sorry about that It just seems odd. My stomach feels the exact same- Luckly I haven't gained too much weight, so I just don't understand.

Re: 10 months post op-very swollen stomach
Glad to hear I am in the same boat ladies. Almost a year post op and I still have the swelly belly thing going on. I am overweight to begin with but finding pants to fit is tough. What fits and feels comfortable in the AM is not always comfortable at the end of the day. The swelling seems to be getting better as time goes on so let's hope that "this too shall pass".

Re: 10 months post op-very swollen stomach
I was searching for posts like this. I am 3 months today from having total hysterectomy. I am also undergoing chemo for ovarian cancer. I still get quite sore in the abdomen, especially if I push a shopping cart. I was not sure if this is from the surgery or chemo, as Iget part of my chemo through a port in my pelvic area.
Are others out there in Hystervville experiencing soreness and tenderness in their abdomen, Does it come on after a day of activity or pushing a shopping cart. Maybe I expect too much, as I feel I did quit well after the surgery.
Thanks

Re: 10 months post op-very swollen stomach
ME too!!!!!!!! I am six months post op. My tummy is as big as it was before my surgery when I had a 20 cm and 10 cm tumours plus uterus taken out!!! I lost 13 lbs post op and went back to gym working my way up to 4 days a week. My hubby came home of Afghanistan for 5 weeks and cooked his fool head off. I tried not to eat more than a small plate but it disrupted my usual habits and wham! 20 lbs. gained and my tummy still swollen and sticking out even more. I am very sad. I am going to the gym alot but I feel drained and very tired all the time. I thought exercise was supposed to make you feel energized.

Re: 10 months post op-very swollen stomach
for posting this thread, pixey 38!
I've been really frustrated by the fact that every day, my body reminds me that I had a hysterectomy. I've gained ten pounds and know I need to get more active, but this swelling is just so annoying. I was at a family reunion this past weekend, and everyone kept saying things like, "You should be doing fine by now" and "Wouldn't it help if you just got more exercise?" (Of course, none of these people has ever had a hysterectomy.)
Every time I read that someone else is still having trouble, I feel so relieved to know that I'm normal. Knowing that it can take a year to heal and putting up with it are two different things.
Thanks for sharing, ladies. I feel so much better knowing that I'm not alone.

I'm 6wk post op saw your post. And you guys are not making me feel encouraged here. I am already sick of my swelly belly and it's only 6wks. I just did an exercise video today - Walk away the Pounds. Is exercise going to get rid of it. I can't imagine having it for 10 months.

Re: 10 months post op-very swollen stomach
I hesitate to post as I don't want to be too discouraging! As soon as I finish a meal, I bloat up like a balloon! Since I am thin, it is very obvious if I don't dress carefully! I have told my DH that if I could just live without eating, I would be fine!
Right now I am trying to eat very small portions, very often to see if it will help. It has to some degree. As much as I don't want to, I might need to try an elimination diet to see if I can find some specific foods that are the triggers for me. If that doesn't work, a chat with my GP and/or gastro could be next.
