Pelvic Exam- Had Pap

My doc stated on my last visit as I left, "At next visit I will do a Pelvic Exam." At the time it did not cross my mind to ask a Pelvic Exam, but for what cause my uterus was removed along with cervix as you see cause of fibroids?" I had a Pap already this year which was normal. How long does it take the Pelvic results to come back? Or will I find out that day of my visit I am not sure what it all entitles. I do remember what the Pap was like and it did not take long to do but results took about 2 weeks to return!! Just need a little knowledge here to clear my mind. I know better not to worry, God has not left me.

Re: Pelvic Exam- Had Pap

Lady -

The pelvic exam you will know right away. That's where they check the abdomen, the internal check and depending on the dr and reason for your surgery possibly a rectal exam. My gyn never did one but my gyn onc always does one. I asked his nurse practitioner and she said w/ a rectal they can feel the area better and in my case would be looking for any cancer recurrence.

With the pap as you said it will be 2 weeks.

Good luck.

Re: Pelvic Exam- Had Pap

At my 3 week post op appt I had a pelvic exam, no pap. He just looked to make sure the vaginal cuff was healing and also felt my ovaries. I go back Monday for my 6 week post op and he will be doing another pelvic exam.

Ladies,

Thanks for the heads up, I am the type of person who like to be prepared if I can. It helps to know what to expect especially when you are walking into the office.

Re: Pelvic Exam- Had Pap

I had a pelvic exam at my one week check! I was soooooo scared to have the speculum inserted. My surgeon said, "I have to take a peek and see how things are healing." She was sooooooo gentle with me and I barely noticed. She basically just opened the speculum enough so that her big bright light could show her my vaginal cuff. I'm happy that she looked at it because you never know what could be going on. I go back at 5 weeks and that is supposedly my last visit; however, I'm going to either set up an appointment with her or my regular Doctor to peek at me one last time when I'm ready for sex (8 weeks). I don't want to have sex without an absolute ok that I'm ready. A lot can happen between that 5 week check and the eight week mark.
