Sharp pain and feeling that bladder isn't emptying completely - can anyone relate?

I had a TAH on the 8th July, which was uneventful and I felt far better than I imagined I would afterwards. I woke up from the anaesthetic in floods of tears and cried on and off for a few hours, but think that was just all the drugs in my system. I spent four nights in hospital and couldnt wait to get home. Now, a week on, it has been a lot easier than I thought, and I can do more than I thought I would be able to - I'm just scared of overdoing it. Only slight problem at the moment is a sharp pain that takes my breath away whenever I go to the loo, and a feeling that I'm not emptying my bladder properly - is anyone else having the same? It would be good to compare notes with someone else who is at the same stage?

i went threw that too, for a few weeks i felt like i couldnt pee all the way and it hurt to pee and was told its normal. They have to move your bladder to cut off the ligament and nerve conecting it to the uterus and takes a lil bit for it to adjust. but do call your dr always beter to be safe.

Re: Sharp pain and feeling that bladder isn't emptying completely - can anyone relate

I had the same problem while I was in the hospital. In fact, they kept me an extra day because I wasn't voiding completely. My doc tested for infection around week 4 and it came back clear. Now at 6 weeks, it's getting better. I only feel it when my bladder is very full. It feels like a pinch at the end when I go. I asked my doc about it in my post op appt. and he said to chalk it up to the healing process. They had to move my bladder around quite a bit to get at stuff and it probably needs time to settle down.

Hope this helps.

Re: Sharp pain and feeling that bladder isn't emptying completely - can anyone relate

I had TVH on 6/29 and after having to wear a Foley for 3 days after I was discharged, I STILL feel funny in that department. I can't describe it other than I think I have an urge to go that far outweighs the amount of urine I produce. Either I'm not emptying, or I have an urge to go when I don't have to go that much. I can't decide. But I will say that it's getting better every day. It must be from the manipulation of the bladder. In the two days after the Foley came out there were a couple of times that I couldn't go at all for an hour or two, and then I would be successful. I was terrified I was off to the ER again for another Foley, but it never came to that thank goodness. I think it's all part and parcel of this surgery.

Cejery:

You are not alone. The first week home was not fun. While I was so excited to be pain free from all of the female problems. little did I know that I would experience potty problems...both functions. It was very painful to eliminate either way. At my 4 week appointment, my colon was back to normal, but the bladder still did not feel 100%. While I was able to empty, it would still feel full. I would empty my bladder and by the time I got to the bathroom door, I had the urge to go again. Oh what a wonderful feeling, NOT. I expressed my concern at my 4 week post op appointment, and my doctor told me that it was still to soon to feel 100%. He told me to give it 3-4 more weeks, and he was right. My surgery was April 28, I'm feeling great now and back to normal. I hope that you get to feeling better soon...just give yourself a little more time. I know that you are probably tired of hearing that, but that is what it takes. There are better days ahead.

Re: Sharp pain and feeling that bladder isn't emptying completely - can anyone relate

I am 4 weeks today post op and still having similar feelings when I go to the loo. I believe that it has something to do with your bladder being handled during surgery and hopefully it will settle down soon. At present, I can only go for about an hour before I need to go. Also, I have noticed that when I do go, right at the very end there is a little discomfort like having to squeeze out the last little bit out. So I think your concern is well worth while and I think unless you feel like your have a fever and unwell, you should try not to worry too much as it is will improve with time. Even though my 6 week appt is not due for another two weeks, I have read some invaluable information on this site as to my recovery. Thank you Hystersisters for providing this site. It has been fantastic help.

I have the same feeling. My date was 7/9 and when my bladder was full I couldn't go and then once I did. I felt it wasn't empty all the way. - called MD did a Urine test anyway but what seemed to help was drinking for me was 1/2 gallon of cranberry juice. The tartness (acidic) of the juice calmes down the spasms. Of course if you have a fever and /burning sensation call your MD also increase your water juice intake.

Re: Sharp pain and feeling that bladder isn't emptying completely - can anyone relate

I am 5-6 weeks post op and have now developed this odd sensation when almost finish peeing. Its a sharp shooting pain. Other peoples posts have put my mind at rest though - as it seems quite common to experience this.

I sneezed badly last night and bled a little but everything seems ok this morning.

Sometimes its hard to tell what is watered down blood and what is dissolvable stitch gunk! Has anyone else experienced this after sneezing?
