Phantom Cramps

Has anyone heard of Phantom Cramps? My OB/GYN said not only could I have PMS but many women experience Phantom Cramps. Kinda like when a person loose a limb they still feel pain in that limb.

Re: Phantom Cramps

I'm pretty sure that I'm having SOMETHING like that today. I've had pms symptoms for about a week, which is how long it usually lasted. Today, I'm achy and crampy and weepy.

Re: Phantom Cramps

HI, I had LAVH/BSO 2 days ago. I have had what feels EXACTLY like severe menstrual cramps, or one LONG conraction!!! I thought it was kind of weird, but was told it was a totally normal thing to feel. So, I just 'breathe' my way through it.

You know I just told dh that I felt like I was having contractions...he said it was probably just healing pains.

Re: Phantom Cramps

Interesting reply. Im not sure if you meant that he said it in a 'GUY' way or an empathetic way.
I did too much the other day (cleaned, changed sheets, then cried ......should say SOBBED for hours)then had pain almost as bad as the day of surgery. And it was just like the first time. Felt like super bad menstrual cramps. I know that even though the 'parts' are gone, that the nerves and some of the ligaments and stuff are still there. So maybe thats what causes it. I know Im expecting myself to heal faster than it is, and totally discounting how long this takes to recover. They dont tell you to recover for at least 6 wks without a reason!!! Just a bad habit I have and a worse habit my boyfriend has!! (of course HE has to be worse, hes the guy LOL!!!) Dont get me wrong, he is helpful when he chooses to be. Which, is most of the time.
Take care of yourself,
Sharon

I've experienced the same thing. I'm glad I'm not alone. I get premenstrual like cramps and bloating. Very strange. Its happened several times. Wonder how long it will last?

To be honest I hadn't thought of how he ment it. I think he was trying to make me feel better though.

Re: Phantom Cramps

I am SO glad I found this thread! I'm three weeks post op and although I'm not feeling any pain, I've been having these irritating little crampy feelings, much like menstrual cramps. I've been attributing much of it to gas; usually when the cramps start, within a short time I can feel rumblings in my bowels. DH thinks maybe my ovaries are kicking in, which would be kind of nice to know they're waking up.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one feeling crampy

Re: Phantom Cramps

Im wondering if the reason we are having has anything to do with the vaginal 'cuff' healing. Have ALL of us had our cervix removed? I have. Also, having seen first hand what goes on from a medical perspective in any abdominal surgery, theres ALOT of trauma that takes place in there. I think its been difficult for those who are helping take care of me to understand because there not much external sign of the surgery. Just the 'swelly belly' that my boyfriend blamed on eating too much ice cream over a 2 day period. I laughed and tried to explain that I'd have to eat ALOT of ice cream to gain that much weight in TWO days!!! Gotta love em
Hope y'all are starting to feel better. I WAS, until one of my dogs ( a little guy) used my tummy as a trampoline a little while ago. NOW, Im in excruciating pain again!!!! AND, like I needed any more problems, I woke up this morning all wet. ( I had incontinence for the first 2 weeks.) but THIS wet, was coming from my breasts. I soaked my pj's the bed etc. This is just nuts!! The gland that produces the hormone that causes lactation has nothing to do with ovaries!!! Sheesh!!
Take care all!!
