Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

Today is exactly 5 weeks since my surgery & I just left the house without my DH for the first time. I think it was maybe the 3rd time I've driven somewhere.

I have been surprised to find that driving seems less uncomfortable then riding - I can stabilize myself with the steering wheel & since I'm in control of the vehicle, I am more relaxed & can plan for bumps in the road better.

I still had him drive me this last Monday when we went to another city about 1.5 hours away. Lack of stamina seems to be my real problem now.

Most of my restrictions are supposed to be lifted at my next Dr visit next Friday. I can't believe I will be going back to work August 17th!

Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

I was told no hot tubs or swimming in lakes until at least six weeks of recovery. A private hot tub may be different but think of all the potential bacteria in a public one.

Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

I had my surgery on July 20 and my dr told me not to drive for 3 weeks and as far as the hot tub I am resorting to showers. My dr. told me that even if I do began to feel better please take it easy and complete healing from total hysterectomy takes 100 days.

Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

My Dr said not to drive for 10-14 days or until I could brake without it hurting. She said no tub baths until 6 week checkup and no more bleeding.

Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

100 days? It will take 6 months to a year for you to be really healed. Continue to take good care of yourself upto your anniversary date.

Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

My doctor had suggested I could resume work since I had an LAVH, including tubes & ovaries. I gave it two & a half weeks and returned to work. including driving to the work place (15 mins drive). Two days later I had to stay back at home due to excess fatigue. I did this routine for a couple of weeks and was drained by the end of the second week. When I reported to the dr, she did a complete turnaround saying I rushed returning to work and ordered two additional weeks of home stay.

I hope I have not damaged anything in that time and keeping my fingers crossed. Still at home, still feel weak and lightly feverish all the time. Lower ab discomfort continues though not debilitating. I have my 6 week check due next week and that includes an ultrasound.

Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

Idayre - Wow sounds like you did need more rest. I think we all head differently. Also, I think age and type of work both play big rolls in our recovery. I had the same procedures as you. I am feeling much better than last week and did go back to work this week. I do drive, but my job requires me to sit all day. Nothing strenuous.

I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Dr. Advice on Driving /Hot tub

Google "hot tubs and bacteria" and read about all the different diseases and incidents that can be caused by hot tubs. Our surgery makes us more vulnerable. I'm always amazed at some of the things doctors say on this website.
