Vaginal Odor

Afternoon All!

I'm sure this has been asked many times -- but is vaginal odor normal? I'm only 11 days post-op and my discharge is dark brown-ish.

It sure is smelly! Smells like old dried blood (ick). I don't have any itching or burning and I remember in the hospital the doc's said that brown discharge would be normal.

Just checking if anyone else experienced this.

Thanks!

Re: Vaginal Odor

Yes, it is VERY normal to have an odor, even a slightly unpleasant one, during the first few weeks post op.

If you do develop itching or burning, or the odor becomes 'fishy', make sure to let the DR know.

Re: Vaginal Odor

I remember having my "last "period right before surgery and laughing to say "This will be my last kotex"... Should have never said that! I have been wearing pads or liners every day since! I have had discharge ranging from brownish tinged liquid filling a pad a day to now a pantyliner or two a day now with this rusty colored discharge. I also developed an infection. So I have been on Cipro and Flagyl for a week and a half.

The odor was enough to make me stay home for fear someone would smell it. I resorted to scented pantiliners, and it seems as though the meds are clearing the infection.

Re: Vaginal Odor

The odor lasted until my 4th week post op. I am now 5 weeks and haven't used a pantyliner for about a week. It will get better.

Re: Vaginal Odor

Thanks ladies -- it does smell a little fishy, but more like fish, dried blood and just nastiness.

I'm having a thin dark brown-ish discharge. I have a call in the dr's office just in case.
