Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

In week 3, was hoping for progress, but still in pain. I am able to get up from a sitting or laying position much easier, but now the sharp pains have been replaced with constant tummy pain, still very sensitive to the touch. I now also have a bad ache in my right side, as though someone has been punching me in it. When moving around, I can feel something "sticking" me more on that side as well. Last night, could not sleep for pain on both sides, just couldn't get comfortable. Still not off narcotics, no longer taking every 6 hours, try to stick to 1 Vicodin (sp?) at night before bed and 1 Toradol during the day when my pain is the worse. One good thing is that I have been able to drive for two short trips this week. Anyone else having similar "Week 3 Blues"?

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

I'm at week 3 as well and yesterday had more abdominal and low back pain than last week. I'm on a high dose of Ibuprofen which doesn't control the current pain. Last week the Ibuprofen controlled the pain.

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

I forgot to mention the lower back pain as well. I tried a tub bath last night but my belly and back were too uncomfortable so I guess I'll stick with showers for the time being. My hubby took me out for a ride this weekend which was also killer on my back for sitting in the car so long...

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

I'm just starting week 3 and have all of the same symptoms. I felt really good yesterday. I ran a few errands with my husband and was so excited to feel somewhat back to normal. Then in the evening I had to pick my girls up from practice because no one was available. It's a half hour each way. The second half of the trip was not too pleasant. I couldn't sleep at all last night because I was so uncomfortable. I had to get up at 6:30 and then get my girls to the busstop, which is only a mile away. As I was driving home, I was having this stabbing pain and just started feeling really nauseous. Then the water works started. I was a mess! So disappointing after feeling good yesterday. I've seen so many posts on her that remind it's a process and to take it slow. It's so hard when you finally feel good. You want to take advantage of it!

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

I am also in week three and is starting to feel a bit better. I still feel very tired and very emotional.
I go back out to work the day after Labour Day so I am hoping that I will be feeling lots better by then.
I appreciate reading all your posts, which is very encouraging.
I am so bored and want to get back to the gym. I am getting my appetite back so i have to be careful as i am not very active, apart from my daily walking.
Good Luck to everyone with their recovery.
I had a TLH with left ovary and tubes removed on August 7.

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

I'm in week 3 now - pain not too bad but I am one of those that just has to get back to normal too soon. The pain comes and goes and you describe it well. Unless one has been through this they cannot understand it! I am also not sleeping, I take Ambien but am trying to get off it and it seems impossible to do. I am really teary since week 2 and I think my husband (who was such a great care-giver the 1st wk) has about had it. I am up one day-down the next with major crying. I really hate this part (the blues) any suggestions? I am on the estrogen patch.

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with the "waterworks". I've been pondering any and everything while I should be sleeping and having "midnight tear sessions" while everyone else is knocked out. I have little ones in school too so I understand the getting up early part. I'm usually up from 5-ish to 9-ish in the mornings then try to get in a nap. Well this morning I got a call from my daughter's teacher right after taking my pain pill and getting in the bed, had to jump up and go back out. I had about a 2 hr nap today but doesn't seem to be enough with the on-and-off sleeping session from last night. I have maybe another hour and a half before I need to get this (frozen) lasagna started before picking the kids up...

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

Hang in there Ulanda! I cannot imagine going through this with little ones to care for! Yep! I lay there all night feeling guilty for anything and everything that has ever happened in my children's lives(they are grown young men and are having nothing to do with me right now!) I do realize it is exhaustion but I'm afraid of depression taking hold. I am so gratful for this site; while I have not been here much it is such a comfort when it's a really bad day to know someone else is "out" there!
Hugs to you! P.S. I just re-read this and it makes little sence-just too tired to rewrite it - hope you get the gist of it!

Re: Week 3 - Pain, Insomnia, Etc.

Hi Tootie09,
I am having the same problem....sharp tummy pain and constant soreness. I get up much easier now, but it is still painful and I'm reminded when I get up too fast or sit down too fast or hard. I'm still taking pain meds. Dissappointing, because I thought all this pain would be over in 2 weeks. (I'm post opt 3 wks). When I start to feel better I thought that meant do more. But I'm finding the hard way that means continue to rest to stay ahead and not do too much a take 3 steps back. Hang in there. This 6 weeks really does mean 6 wks. Some women I talked with had to take 8 wks.

I am also having the "blues" and upset because i am having some pain on my left side (appears to be where lft ovary used to be) and it radiates to my buttock. I don't know if i twisted something or what. I want to be better, I have to be better because I have to go back to work in about 21/2 weeks
