Swelling with HRT

I am 5 months post-op from a LSH/BSO. I started HRT using the Vivelle Dot .05mg approximately 3 months ago. Two weeks ago my hands, legs and feet started swelling terribly for no apparent reason. My hands will swell slightly with a large salt intake but not to this degree. Has anyone had this side-effect?

Re: Swelling with HRT

absolutely...it's my biggest complaint and the primary thing that makess me keep going off of them. It doesn't matter how little I take or which kind. My eyes would be almost swollen shut in the mornings sometimes. That in turn makes my BP go up.

That being said, however, the suddeness of your swelling might preempt a dr visit. My swelling is obvious after the first 48 hours on an estrogen.

Re: Swelling with HRT

I put on a Climara patch last Friday and by Saturday evening the swelling was terrible. My ankles ached all night. After taking the patch off it took three days before the swelling went down. Keep trying different hormones but still get same results.

Re: Swelling with HRT

Oh, me, too...I found that progesterone helped a bit with that...my hands and arms were following asleep constantly from the retention...it was painful

Interestingly, I still battled it a bit...and my mom in law told me that high doses of calcium can also bring up sodium which in turn can cause fluid retention...I seem to be okay on 1200 mg of calcium, but if I go higher I notice it...sometimes I take a day off of calcium and feel like it helps...though I know how important the calcium is too us with no ovaries.
