Heavy bleeding 8 mos post-op

Hi, everyone. Sorry to post with more bad news. My "mini" period last month lasted 18 days-which was quite bad. I've been trying to find another doctor, but no one will take me without insurance and trying to get into a community clinic is difficult and time-consuming. Well, my period started again. Before it was always brown and not much flow, but now it is BRIGHT RED and there is a lot of it. It was rare for my period to ever be bright red even before I had the ablation. Now it is panicking me. There just shouldn't be this much flow coming from just the cervix-it shouldn't be possible! And the red color....I've had a very nasty, stubborn yeast infection all month-could that have something to do with it? If not, why the sudden change? Should I panic? What can I do? I can't afford to go to the emergency room and even if I did, what could they do there?

Please help......

Velvet,

Somewhere, there has got to be someplace that you can go and get yourself checked out. I cannot fathom that what is going on with you is normal, and I wish that somehow I could help you. Please, please try to find someone to look into this for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Heavy bleeding 8 mos post-op

What happened to your other doctor, the one who performed the ablation and LSH?
Is your yeast infection being treated? Is it improving?
You do need to be seen. Can you go to the county ER. They have to treat you and I'm pretty sure payment is based on sliding scale. If nothing else they can assess how emergent your condition is and determine if you have an infection. They may also be able to refer you to a clinic. Can you contact your church and see if they can help you find a doctor that will treat you pro bono or for reduced fee? Have you spoken with any doctors. Often if they know you do not have insurance and will be paying cash out of pocket the will discount the fees and accept what they would be reimbursed by an insurance company they are in network with.
My heart goes out for you, I hope you find a simple quick and economical solution.

Hi (((velvetandlace)))

That does sound disconcerting. I am very sorry to hear that you are dealing with this and feel like you have nowhere to turn. I think that if I were in your shoes I would visit a local public health clinic. I think that it is likely the most affordable choice for you. I hope that you find an answer very soon and I am sending you many, many hugs!

Re: Heavy bleeding 8 mos post-op

Before we had insurance, I used a large clinic. They had a Financial Assistance Program. Please call their business office and see what's available. Also, depending on what state you are in (we are in NY), there are women's health programs that pay for many things. Calling your Department of Social Services can help with this. Keep making those phone calls. I have found much financial help by asking and explaining my situation. God bless.

Re: Heavy bleeding 8 mos post-op

The doctor who did the ablation and LSH has no idea what to do about the problem. He suggested trying Progestin-only-Pills to see if the reduced the bleeding. Prior to the ablation I had tried the Mirena IUD, which is progestin-only. It made no difference after my body got used to it -before that happened, I spotted daily for a few months and then it just went back to normal. Before that I'd tried several varieties of pill and patch, some continuously. They either had no effect at all or caused me to bleed out of control. I do not have high hopes for the P. O. pills. Also, I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and progesterone will cause our joints to loosen even further and have more problems.
My doctor does not think he could perform a trachelectomy vaginally on me, only with a full abdominal incision, which is out of the question because of the syndrome. I could see him and inform him of what is going on, but the best I could do is ask for a referral to a place that will deal with me. In Rhode Island childless adults are not eligible for Medicaid or other public assistance. There are few public clinics with long wait lists and I've found that some doctor's offices refuse to take uninsured patients even if they offer to pay out of pocket.

The bleeding is not at alarming levels today-at least enough that going to the emergency room would be pointless. I had been trying the yeast infection for a couple of weeks without results. I am going to need to do something soon though. Thank you all for the support.

Re: Heavy bleeding 8 mos post-op

Keep searching for the doctors. I have unfortunately begun to see out of network doctors. So I am basically uninsured as far as the offices are concerned. I pay out of my pocket and may get something back from my insurance company. I have been pleasantly surprised at the cost containment and reasonable pricing. My bills have not been outrageous, yet.
I also work in the healthcare field and a former employer use to turn away cash paying patients because he didn't want to deal with them. First off unless you can not document any means in which to pay I do not feel that is ethical or moral. Keep looking maybe you'll get lucky. Also do not assume what the girl that answers the phone says is the final word. I've witnessed receptionist give patients wrong information just because they didn't want additional paper work.
One other thought - my son recently needed expensive dental work and we do not have insurance. I was open and honest with the dentist regarding my personal health related expenses and not working since last sept. He suggested I apply for a health care loan. It is a company that pays him and sets me up on a payment plan. I would be to find out if it is available in RI.
