4 weeks post-op mood swings and hot flashes

HI, I'm 44 and had my uterus only removed 4 weeks ago. Mood swings and hot flashes. Feel like a yo-yo. Went in to dr. 1 week ago and told him about symptoms. He said it can't have anything to do with hormones because I still have my ovaries. My husband and son are ready to move out until I get over this. Can't blame them. I haven't been a big joy to be around since I got home. Anybody else with these symptoms that they "can't" have?

Re: 4 weeks post-op mood swings and hot flashes

Hey Moody,
I've seen plenty of posts of women who had their ovaries and experience the same symptoms as you describe. So you are not alone. I don't have my ovaries, but I was told by my dr. that when you have a surgery like this, and keep your ovaries, they go to sleep for some weeks.

So, don't worry too much, and tell your husband and son it is temporary. Things really will get better.

Best wishes!

Re: 4 weeks post-op mood swings and hot flashes

These symptoms CAN be normal. I had a TAH- removal of uterus and cervix- kept ovaries, and i have had some of the worst mood swings, hot flashes and night sweats. I have spoken to my doc about this and she says it can all be normal due to the surgery and may take up to 2-3 months for everything to start working normally again. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck and ask your family to just bare with you through this, because as bad as it is for them, they have NO CLUE what your going through!!!!

hi moody- you are not alone!!! i still have my ovaries.... i had all the menopause symptoms; moodiness, insomnia, hot flashed, and night sweats!! after a few weeks, i couldn't take it anymore and called the doc- he said to come in for bloodwork, and when the results came in, my numbers were OFF the chart!!! my ovaries were still in shock!!! i started ERT for short term to help me get off this rollercoaster... i hope this helps.... maybe you can request bloodwork-
i hear it goes away eventually once they wake up- good luck!!!!!!!

Re: 4 weeks post-op mood swings and hot flashes

hey,

i am 9 weeks post op. had removal of tubes (salpinjectomy) 12 months ago and had serious night sweats and hot flashes, moodiness, and tearfullness. faced into total abdominal hysterectomy but kept one ovary 9 weeks ago. again i had the same symptoms. Went to see my gp who was on holidays, but there was a replacement doctor there instead. he told me that basically it was all in my head and to go home and "pull myself together". I left feeling shattered. One week later returned and my gp was returned from her holidays. I explained my symptoms to her and she said she would do blood work. My bloods came back through the roof. Still waiting for every thing to settle down. As i am only 26 and have no kids my husband thinks that i should be over it now.
