New to site. Nearing 6 week recovery

Just found out about this site a few days ago.
Find strength in reading other experiences.
Went back to work day 30 post-op for 1/2 day first three days back, and then full time since that time.Getting a little stronger day by day.

Hi and welcome, it sounds like you are doing well. How are you feeling overall? Was the surgery and recovery to date what you anticipated?

Re: New to site. Nearing 6 week recovery

Thank you for the welcome greeting.
The surgery went well..did not need any morphine or vicadin, not even an aspirin. Went home from hospital the next day after surgery.
Only problem--and my doc and the pharmacist said this is normal...was that started having some muscle spasms after week 2 (when the stitches started healing).
Got on some anti-spasmotic meds and after 10 days on it ...it is giving some soothing relief to me.My body was kind of running away with me for a little while there....still a few spasms.
Seems that it just takes a while to feel perky once again. I am still resting often after work and on the weekends.
Did your surgery go well?

Welcome!
Isn't this site the best? What type of surgery did you have??? I'm glad you're feeling well. I had a TVH (total vag hyst) and I'm coming along swimmingly also. Funny crotch/ab feelings now and then, but it's all good.

Re: New to site. Nearing 6 week recovery

Happy to hear you are doing so well.
This site is very comforting...to see what others are experiencing. I teach so I am walking about a mile a day at work and I think that is helpful to my recovery. Plus, I am eating more fruits and veggies because it is easiest to digest, which is helpful to my strange tummy muscle feelings.
I had a LAVH.
( Laproscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy)
I am still a little swollen and have some funny stuff with my ab, also.
Am so looking forward to be back to my perky self...sure hope so. Otherwise, seems best to eat healthier, rest and be as active as one can be without hurting yourself.
Thanks Nicki----for hearing you are doing well, also.

Re: New to site. Nearing 6 week recovery

I'm normally quite a ball of energy also and it's been difficult when I'm feeling good not to do too much. We're moving Oct 1st and man, I want to pack like nobody's business and clean, clean, clean. But I'm not. Our bodies are just miracles, aren't they though?

Re: New to site. Nearing 6 week recovery

Yes, our bodies are miracles. Shouldn't be too long before we will be able to clean once again. I want to do more, but I am willing to give my body recooperation time.
From what I understand it takes about 4 weeks to feel somewhat okay, and then six weeks to feel better and then after about 3 months we are pretty much back to our perky selves, but without the pain that put us in this situation in the first place. I think it takes about a year to get the anesthia out of our system.
Sounds like others will have to pack for you.
Well, I need to do a few chores and then shower and ready for tomorrow. I hope you have a peaceful evening and try not to feel guilty about letting others pack for the move. Though it is frustrating to be physically limited while we are recovering...it sure is going to be nice to have a good level of energy once again when it happens.
I am trying to enjoy the recovery time, but am really looking forward to the actual recovery. I have had a new kayak for many months now...and one of these days I will get to use it...unless varmints get to it before I recover enough to be working with a 50 pound kayak. May not be until the spring...but that is okay.
Taking it one day at a time. Am grateful that this is behind me instead of before me. Just think...of the blessings that come from this surgery. I await them after I heal more..........happily remainiing hopeful.
Hope you are enjoying this time of rest and recovery as much as is possible.

Re: New to site. Nearing 6 week recovery

It is great to hear when ladies are doing so well. Just like the ladies tell us on the pre op forum it takes a while to recover. I had a LAVH in Jan and unfortunately have been having complications. Tomorrow I go back to the hospital for an exam under anesthesia and diagnostic tests. The first 5 months the doctors told me I was a slow healer. Then they started to say I had chronic pelvic pain and it had nothing to do with the surgery.
I changed doctors and they have been working hard to diagnose what is wrong and to plan an effective safe surgery. With any luck by this time tomorrow I will be back home in my own bed with a plan of action. Yea

Happy to hear that you have realized that we are free from menstral cycles. That is a wha-hoo.
This recovery time sure is a patience builder..isn't it?
