When is it safe to sleep on your tummy again?

Am I the only one out there that missings long hot baths and sleeping on my tummy?? When is it going to be okay to sleep on my stomach again?? The swelling is finally starting to go down to a almost normal range but is still very tender...don't go back to the Dr until mid september for my 6week check up.. I have always slept on my stomach and have been having a real hard time sleeping lately and miss having a good night sleep.......
Went to bed saturday night at 9:30pm and didn't get up til 9:30 am sunday... guess my system was trying to make up for lost sleep...if i could only sleep like that every night...... Hope everyone is healing well and enjoy this site as much as i do!!

HeyJosie!
There is a great thread about this very thing...go up to the right hand side and do the google search on Hystersisters about sleeping positions. There are LOTS of women who say, on there, that they were tummy sleepers again right after. And there are side sleepers too. Seems the key is pillows. However you can sleep comfortably seems to be okay!

I have found that if I use my body pillow I can sleep almost on my tummy. I too was a tummy sleeper - but have now adjusted to one leg straight and the other sort of over the body pillow leaning forward. I hope this makes sense?

Re: When is it safe to sleep on your tummy again?

I am a tummy sleeper too. I couldn't sleep that way thought until about 4 1/2 weeks after surgery. The funny thing was, I woke up that way and didn't even know I had gotten in that position. I figured, if I could do that and sleep through, it was okay! I just turned back over very carefully!

I, too, had to sleep with a pillow and turn into the pillow and kick one leg straight and the other curved, and a pillow behind my back helped too. My poor husband almost didn't have room in the bed because I had a lot of pillows.

I miss the long hot baths. Of course, it's too smoky outside to use the jacuzzi, but my own little tub, and a little bubble bath...*SIGH*

Re: When is it safe to sleep on your tummy again?

I was sleeping on my stomach early on, even though it was a little tender. Sleeping on my back just wasn't doing it for me... Mostly I sleep on my side.

I am soooo ready to take a bath again! I love my baths!

I'm hoping that my doctor says it ok next week! I'll be more excited about taking a bath than anything!

Re: When is it safe to sleep on your tummy again?

If you used a small pillow under your rib area it makes it easier to sleep on you tummy because there is less pressure on the sore spot. I tried that at 4.5 weeks and am still doing it at almost 8 weeks. Sweet dreams!!
