Pain in groin, 16 months post op

I had a TAH/BSO in April of 2008 due to cancer and am doing really well. I feel so good and so far all my screenings and xrays have been normal.

Right after surgery I was swollen and had pain in my groin area. The dr said it was probably due to the removal of lymph nodes, etc. The swelling went away after a week, but the pain has continued. It's not horrific. It's not something that I need any meds for, but it is just this wierd sensation. It's uncomfortable. Sometimes it goes down my leg.

I saw my OBGYN last week, and she is referring me to a surgeon. I see him tomorrow.

Anyone have this? I'm wondering if it could be the nerves still healing in that area?

I dont' have that exact same thing, but i do have a recurring pain on my left side a little below my hip bone that sometimes goes down my leg and some other strange sensations on and off. Its nothing I need meds for either, but it does bother me.......Hope your appointment with the surgeon goes well. Keep us posted.

Re: Pain in groin, 16 months post op

I had a tightening in my left groin that was later diagnosed as a "lymphocele"--a sac of lymphatic fluid. You might ask about that, though it stumped my gyn/onc when I first described it. It was a side effect of lymph node dissection surgery.

I also have this type of sensation in my thigh. I will discuss this with my gyn/onc tomorrow at my 6 mo ck up. Please let us know what the surgeon has to say about your pain. Good luck with your appt.

I had the same thing as Murky did, pressure in my left groin area, and it was diagnosed as lymphocele too. It eventually just went away.
Good luck and hope you will feel better soon.

Re: Pain in groin, 16 months post op

Thanks for the replies! The surgeon feels it is most probably a pinched nerve caused by scar tissue from the surgery. He checked me for a femoral hernia, but there is no evidence of that.

There is no need to do anything at this point. If the pain gets worse and to where I can't function then surgery would be done. But it's not bad. More uncomfortable than painful, so I'm good with not doing anything. I'm just relieved that it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your concern everyone! Janlar, good luck with your appointment tomorrow!

Yes, I do know what you mean about the appointments! That first year it's a little scary but I don't get nervous about them anymore. Hopefully our "pain" from the nerve damage will go away soon!
