Other Bladder lift/sling options NOT Mesh??

Long story short... I had a TVH and TOT sling March 2008 due to cervical cancer. TOT sling was removed by a fabulous surgeon in December due to EXTREME pain and discomfort. We hoped I would have enough scar tissue to keep things in place with a botox option in the future but now 8 months later my issues have returned and I am also again having pain from the "ends" of the TOT sling that could not be removed. Bladder dropped, cystocele returned, new rectocele.

I am having an ultrasound in two days to see what is going on down there and also check on my ovary function. Then the next day I get to see another specialist for joint opinion on what the next step will be. He has excellent credentials including a fellowship at Yale and the Mayo. I want to be prepared.

What are some of the other methods of "tying" or lifting bladder that does not use mesh?

Nicholer76,
You have surely been through alot! I am like you. I want to know what there is to fix or tie up a bladder without using mesh. Can't they just stitch it up????I won't get any surgery down there ( I have a grad 1 1/2-2 cystocele) Stress inc. when sneezing or coughing if I forget to brace or cross legs. -- until I have to and they do something other than mesh. I know they can use your own fascia or ligaments or something. Have you looked into that? Are you seeing a dr. from a teaching hospital?

Re: Other Bladder lift/sling options NOT Mesh??

Hi Ann, yes I have been googling. I am seeing two specialist at a teaching hospital.

I have read about using your own fascia, it sounds like the best option. It seems like it is either rectus fascia (abdominal) or fascia lata (from the thigh) but I would much rather have my own tissue than any foreign body again.

After eight months of "normalcy" the return of pain and prolapse has left me literally sick to my stomach.

Re: Other Bladder lift/sling options NOT Mesh??

Hi Ladies,

I had all my repairs - cystocele, rectocele and enterocele - as well as a vault suspension done using only Prolene stitches. My uro/gyn, who did the surgery said he will NOT use any mesh, he's seen too many problems with mesh and that it is difficult to remove.

Hope this helps you both!
