red skin around incision

TAH/BSO was two weeks ago today. i get the (29!!) staples out tomorrow. it's a vertical incision, and I do NOT have a flat stomach.

no drainage and not much swelling but the skin around the middle of the incision is red - out about 1.5 to 2 inches from the site. the "swelly belly band" helps a bit.

I put a gauze pad over the incision site and wear either a binder or the swelly belly" on top of that.

is the red skin normal?

Re: red skin around incision

I had some redness around my vertical incision too. I think as long as it's not overly sore or hot to the touch, it's probably fine. I was afraid to put anything over it for the first couple weeks. I think it's important that air is able to reach it but ask your dr. tomorrow.

Re: red skin around incision

well, I had a bit of a fever in the office, so the doc gave me some antibiotics, and told me to watch my temp and how far out from the incision the redness is. if either go up, then I am to call. kind of a bummer, but at least the staples are gone and now I just have tape. less prickly than the metal.
