Unhappy - still in pain 6 weeks after bladder fistula repair still in pain 6 weeks after bladder fistula repair

Anyone out there have constant urethra pain? It doesn't burn it just hurts, sharp pain. I can't have anything touching it and I don't have an infection.

I expected some bladder pain like the URO told me but I didn't expect this constant urethra pain. If I don't take the numbing meds I can't function because the pain is so bad. I thought maybe it could be a normal thing after having bladder surgery but I'm at a point where I'm missing work and I have trouble walking at times cause it hurts too much. I decided to go see the URO this week and see what he says. I'm finding this depressing because I can't stop the pain no matter what I try. The numbing meds take some of the pain away so that at least I can function most of the time. I did talk to the GYN about 3 weeks ago but he didn't know why I would have pain there because he said they didn't do anything with the urethra. I'm just wondering if the foley catheter might have done something. Anybody have problems with something similar?

Re: still in pain 6 weeks after bladder fistula repair

I don't have urethra pain but a year after surgery by the end of the day I feel like my bladder is the size of a football field and pressing down on everything. I have sharp shooting pains in my vagina at times and am just generally uncomfortable. I have to wear tummy supporting underwear otherwise I have the football bladder all day. I hope the source of your pain is revealed soon and that you will get better.

Thanks everybody, I see the URO tomorrow and I pray he can help me that's the one hope I have right now. Stillsuffering, I'm sorry you still have that going on right now, did they say that was normal, and can abdominal exercises help at all or kegels?

Re: still in pain 6 weeks after bladder fistula repair

Hello mojo1234, I don't know whether it is normal as I have not consulted a dr about it. I am not up for any more surgery ! I do abdominal exercises and kegels, and they often seem to make it feel worse, but I persevere anyway as I suspect that keeping the muscles firm may be a good thing in the end.

Re: still in pain 6 weeks after bladder fistula repair

I saw the URO today, he doesn't like me using the PYridine stuff (numbing meds) everyday. He wants me on Atarax (IC meds) and stay on detrol. He can't check anything until Oct 28th when he will do a cysto.) He doesn't want to damage anything in there because it's too early after surgery to go take a look in the bladder. He says the pain could be from a few different things. So at the moment, I'm still in pain so hopefully using these two meds will help.

Re: still in pain 6 weeks after bladder fistula repair

I know we all get the bladder pain after fistula repair but it's been almost 8 weeks now and I can't get rid of this intense abdominal and lower back pain, is the bladder pain causing it? Does everyone get this, and how long did it last? I'm on Detrol(antispasmodic) and Atarax (IC med) . I'm assuming it will go away over time. I can't do anything about it for another month when the URO will do a cysto. Advil and tylenol don't work, pain meds work but I'm sick the whole time I'm on them. So I'm trying to work with what I can use. Anybody have this problem?

Re: still in pain 6 weeks after bladder fistula repair

Hi, sorry you're having so many problems. If pain medication works ask your doctor if you can have it in a patch form or maybe suppository to try to avoid the negative effects. If you doctor will not prescribe it ask to see a pain management specialist. They have many different options especially for short term use at least until you are healed enough to be evaluated. I wish I had better answers to provide you with relief. Pain stinks

Thanks hope, I hadn't thought about asking for a patch.
