First store run...
And it went pretty well. Had to keep reminding myself that I could not load up on tons of stuff cause I could not push that heavy cart! Pushing is just as stressful as lifting. And since I have a 10lb lifting restriction for 5 more weeks, I knew I had to only buy a few things.
Well, a few things turned into more...like a 10lb bag of potatoes Which I was very careful to lift. And that DH brought in from the car.
I know as I continue to heal I'm going to have these ooops moments, where I will find myself doing things, then have to stop because it's probably not the best idea.
How do you remind yourself as the weeks go on that you still really shouldn't be doing that?
And is there a list somewhere <or could we make one> of what things weigh? Some things I never think of, heck if we're to hold to 10lbs, I can't pick up my cat since he's 12lbs. And I would have never thought of him as too heavy.

Re: First store run...
My doctor explained it as do not pick up anything as heavy as a gallon of milk. Even if you feel great picking up a large amount could cause adhesions or problems down the road. It is best to just error on the side of caution. Just get a few potatoes instead of the huge bag. Or have someone go with you. You have so much healing going on inside you that you can't see. Be careful.

Re: First store run...
i know. I'm trying to take it very careful. But when I got to the store, I had a craving for potatoes, with it cooling down also thought it would be good to have some soup.
I know we only get one chance to heal the right way, but I also refuse to live in fear <not that anyone here is, just that it would be easy to do> and not do anything for 6 weeks. That would include bending over, lifting anything heaving then a book. I just can't do it, and as a mom heck, the kids won't let me do that!
I do know I won't be going to the store for a while however, but we really needed a few things and DH couldn't make a stop this time. It was nice to get out, it was also tiring just for the factor of constantly having to be on guard and think about what I was getting....and making myself NOT get. LOL
I think I'll wait another week before I try again however.

Blue,
Be careful, because its those "sneaky" things like the 10lb bag of potatoes that get you in trouble. My DH would carry a scale and weigh everything before I was allowed to touch or not touch. He drove me crazy, but in the end it worked out well. Also, I know that you are feeling good right now, but don't overdo anything. Good luck and may you continue to have a smooth healing.

Re: First store run...
It is not so much living in fear. It is just knowing that you can really hurt yourself & I was not willing to take that chance. It is great that you are feeling that well.
