My hair.

I cut my hair yesterday so I can donate it before I start chemo tommorow. 10 1/2 inch ponytail. At least it will be going to a child that needs it. Hopefully they will love it as much as I did. It was'nt as hard as I thought, but I did cry for a minute. I think it's going to be a lot harder when my hair falls out and I have to shave it though...

Re: My hair.

Bless your heart! I just want to cry with you. I am not going through chemo so I can't offer any wisdom but I just wanted to tell you that that was a very nice thing for you to do.

I am sending love, hugs and prayers to you. Best wishes and let us know how you are doing.

Re: My hair.

We all know how hard it was to get it cut! It will be a few weeks before you have to make any more changes.

Best of luck tomorrow.
We will say a prayer ..
Take a deep breath and realize there is no pain involved.
Kinda relaxing as the benadryl they give you makes ya sleepy.

Re: My hair.

Dear Gire

It will grow back however slowly. I lost my eyebrows and eye lashes during the 5th cycle. And finished the 6th cycle (without the taxol) 2 1/2 weeks ago. Today, my eyebrowes are showing some growth. As are my legs and underarms. I figure that my head will be the last to start regrowth because it was the very first to go.

You did a brave thing! Sending you some positive energy!!!

Thank you. My daughter has alopecia areata and is losing her hair. Depending on the extent and duration of the loss, we are looking at the real possibility of a wig or a hair prosthetic. People like you who think of giving to others make it possible for a 10 year old to live a more normal life. Thank you.

May you tolerate your cancer treatments easily and may your cancer be gone forever.

That was a very brave thing to do. I don't know about chemo either (except seeing my Dad go through it as a trooper) but I just wanted to say "thanks" for the child that gets your hair and loves it. I am sure you will sense it.

Take care and be well. Visit and share often -- this forum is a lifesaver.

Re: My hair.

Good for you! You've helped create a wig for someone in need. I did the same thing and ended up donating almost 12" of my hair. I didn't cry though. For a long time I had wanted to see what it was like to have a cute short haircut and I was very pleased. However, I found out very quickly that short hair was more work for me than long hair. But you know what? No hair is easiest of all.

I had a tough time when my hair just started to fall out a little bit but then my head started to hurt and I couldn't wait to wash my hair "out" of my head. Anything to make the pain go away. I had read somewhere to tie a scarf or bandana around your head when you sleep so that all the hair doesn't end up on your pillow. I don't think it matters too much where it ends up, on the pillow or in your scarf, it's a little disconcerting.

I got used to wearing scarves (and my wig occasionally) fairly quickly. what I hated more was losing my eyebrows and eyelashes. Without them, my face looked kind of flat. I wish that I'd learned how to draw in fake brows and use fake eyelashes. I was lucky though, they grew back really quickly though when chemo was over.

I wish you the best of luck with your treatments.
