hang in there, lilbit ... I'm one day ahead of you and I can tell you that each day it *does* get better (although, in my case, it gets more purple, too!)

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Sep 21-Sep 27,2009

had a rough night last night... my first night at home... i slept through the time for my pain meds and woke up in alot of pain at 1am... so i'm still in pain today... going to have to set the alarm on my phone for every four hours to make sure i don't go past the due time for meds again until i start feeling better

also have not yet pooped... am tooting and burping up a storm but lots of lower back pain and i know it's because i haven't had a bm yet... been taking stool softener and a gentle laxative so hopefully will be a matter of time

hope everyone else is settling in well and pampering the princess

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Sep 21-Sep 27,2009

My LAVH was at 9 on 09/23 and I was home before 6 p.m. I think I would have liked to stay on the narco overnight, but they didn't have a regular bed for me, and I didn't want to stay on a gurney that long. The "back cramps" were really bad.
Thank goodness they took out the catheter while I was still asleep. The doctor and nurses were awesome!
I've been sleeping a lot... is there such a thing as too much at this point? The ibuprofen and vicodin are keeping the pain at tolerable levels. And after my next nap, I might consider taking a shower.
Even though I was starving, I decided to introduce solid food slowly. So far, so good.
I'm caught up on my e-mails, texts, and calls. And it's time for me to lay down again. Take care, ladies

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Sep 21-Sep 27,2009

Hi Ladies....glad to hear that you are all doing Okay....not great yet but as the days go on it will get better

I had my TAH/LSO 09/21 ended up being TAH/BSO. I guess when she opened me up I was a tangled mess and she had a terrible time finding what she needed. My uterus unusually small and my left ovary shriveled my right ovary bleeding and endo on it as well so it had to go too. So menopause here I come...lol

First day wasn't bad because the meds were kept up and I had a cath so didn't have to get up, second day was hard getting up and around for the first time, hurt lots and I ended up having a reaction to Tylenol 3 so messed my pain meds up. They switched me to Darvan but ended up reacting to that as well. So by the third day I was a mess.....no pain meds, nauseous and having trouble breathing because the gas was so bad it was pushing on my lungs and I couldn't catch a full breath. I ended up taking a Gas X without them knowing, which I should have done sooner and it helped enough for me to breath again and move around a little more. I ended up on only advil because I"m afraid to take anything else now because of the reactions. By the evening of day 3 I was in the bathroom many times with the runs but it was worth it because my stomach went way down by day 4. Day 4 I was home by 10:30 am...if you would have asked me on day 3 if I thought I could go home the next day I would have said they are crazy if they think I am ready but I was. Big thing that hurts the most is the gas pressing on all the sensitive organs and swelling and stitches inside. I thought my incision was going to be the pain but my insides hurt the most. The incision only hurts a little when I have to get up it pulls and hurts but that's it. Swelling is way down today. My incision is completely numb still feels like the whole area is asleep.

Last night I had the worst nightmares ever...scared me so bad that I made it up the stairs to our master bedroom so quick and in tears that I freaked my hubby out. I swear I was being tormented by demons because I was down and unable to move quickly. I wish I could describe the dream better but I can't really remember the details. I just know that I'd wake up open my eyes realize it was a dream fall asleep and go right back to the same dream...I would be screaming wake up in my dream saying I was just dreaming but I was actually still in my dream..so when I did finally wake up and got upstairs I said to my husband is it really you or am I dreaming. Wow what the heck is that???? is that the meds coming out of our systems? I've heard others talk about nightmares too.

I'm glad it's over. The pain I had from the endo before the surgery is completely gone which to me is a miracle because it was in my back all across my left abdomen and ovary and into my groin. ANd it's all gone.....thank God!!!!!

I hope you all heal quickly and that you pamper yourselves princesses. We deserve it for all we have been through.

God bless you all

Day 4 post op here SAH/BSO on 9/21. Just came home yesterday and slept so well all night. The pain is manageable with just Motrin but I am so tired. I have like no energy its not like I'm sleeping just laying in bed watching TV and dozing on and off. Thought I was gonna try and go to a friend of a friends funeral today but just couldn't. Moving bowels fine I'm just exhausted. started Premarin 3 days ago. Anyone else on it?

Wow, glad everyone seems to be coping pretty well! Had my TLH w/ BSO on 9/22, went home on 9/23. My pain has been manageable so far. Major gas of course, but i am passing it, and boy doesn't it hurt when it's shifting around inside? Have not had a BM yet, am on stool softeners. But haven't really had SOLID food yet either (i wear an upper denture and can't put my plate in due to a serious sore spot from the tube!). I think tomorrow i will try a laxative to see if i can't get things moving. So far been pretty lucky with no back pain, no major pain, no spotting. I did have to change my pillow case today after a nap, woke up and it was soaking wet. Don't know if it was from a flash, or just plain ole hot. lol. I am following the doctors orders of STRICT rest to the teee. I would hate to be the cause of a problem! Well, i'm babbling - its the pain meds - will go have a lie down now! Congrats to all my fellow princesses!!!! We did it!!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Sep 21-Sep 27,2009

Hi Everyone!

Just got home today, procedure was early on Tuesday. I was supposed to have a TVH but it turned into an abdominal procedure. My fibroid was so large. It was the size of a small cantaloupe. She had to remove that before she could begin any part of the hysterectomy. My repair work was not as extensive as originally thought. I only needed to have a sling on my bladder instead of all kinds of repair work. I am sore. I feel like I did one too many sit ups. My legs don't feel like mine and I am very woozzy. I am on perocette which helps with the aches and pains. But my backache is now gone and my bladder seems to be functioning well. This is what everyne was hoping for. I am very tired and lept for 2 hours after I got home.

LSH w/BSO yesterday, 9/24. Home this afternoon. Procedure went well and pain is minimal. Extra-strength Tylenol doing the trick. Have some gas pains and some muscular aches and pains, probably from the very uncomfortable hospital bed. Liquid diet yesterday, progressed to normal diet today. Compression stockings off and catheter out this morning - yeah! Everyone at the hospital was wonderful and everything was easier than I expected. Some nausea and headache from the anesthesia last night. Feeling a little tired now, but pretty good for a princess just 30 hours post-op.
