How much is too much?

Hi everyone! I am three weeks and two days post TVH (kept ovaries) and had a few questions for the sisters.

Firstly, I am so uncertain as to what I should and shouldn't be able to do at this stage. I know the typical no lifting pulling stretching reaching stuff...but I mean everyday get up and going stuff. I see alot of sisters on here are still in their jammies and staying home at three weeks.

I have been dressed and going shopping and cooking and driving and anything else you can imagine since the end of my first week. I started at that time to become very depressed too....I am wondering now if it is because I am expecting too much of myself and my body isn't getting the rest it needs to heal. Should I be laying around and relaxing still?? I do notice that after being out and about for a couple hours I am beat, so I come back to my recliner and relax for a bit.

I haven't had any bleeding since the second day and my pain comes and goes but it's never awful..so I have just assumed my pace is ok. Now I question it...I don't want to suffer the consequences later because I didn't take enough time to relax at home. I also freak out about blood clots in my legs. I have no symptoms of them but am constantly worried that if I sit around too much I will develop one. (am I past the blood clot stage at three weeks?)

Sigh...........any words of advice from all of you would be great. I don't want to end up hurting myself more because I didn't relax at home enough.

Thanks sisters!

Re: How much is too much?

Hi Sally -

In my totally humble opinion you are pushing too hard. Other sisters have said they don't give awards for who does the most the soonest.

Why don't you try a couple of days of resting, that doesn't mean no doing anything but easy things. I remember sitting in my recliner and reading, writing thank you notes, making a few phone calls. It was Christmas so I had Christmas ornaments to make so I could sit in my chair and do that. Of course visited here on the site.

There's nothing wrong with getting up and getting going to a slow degree. I went to church and went grocery shopping with a friend (she did all the pushing and lifting). Went out for a couple of meals but as soon as I would get tired I would tell my DH "we gotta go".

Maybe after a day or two of relaxing your body will let you know what is it's best "happy medium" of activity.

Hugs.

G.

Re: How much is too much?

It sounds like you are recovering very quickly. That is wonderful!
I would really continue to listen to your body and use the checkpoints from the site as guidance. If you feel tired then you should rest. Recovery is very personal. Sometimes it gets tough to temper what is enough activity and what is to little. I think you are doing a good job. Since you are feeling a bit down make sure you are resting and drinking plenty of water. It took me three weeks to get back to even close to being close to a normal level of activity.

Re: How much is too much?

I'm 5 days behind you in recovery and I too have been doing quite a bit since a week post op. From driving, small grocery shopping trips, cooking...but not a lot of cleaning Make the others do that hehe

If it can handle picking up around the house, then do it. I personally couldn't just lay around in bed, or on the couch all day. Although I do sit a lot at my computer, or in a chair reading. So not sure if that's any better.

here I am just a few days from 3 weeks, and I'm bored! Which for me is sort of dangerous! I want to be out doing things, going places. And get ALL the groceries at one shot, not in multiple trips. I have a birthday party I have to get ready for next week, thankfully somewhere else and not at home.

Listen to your body, you know it best. Do try to take it easy every now and then however, don't lift 3 gallons of milk at one time, when 2 could be pushing it. Take breaks from cooking, or standing up a lot.

And good luck with the rest of your healing.
