Estradiol vs Premarin?

Hi sisters! Any & all experiences welcome re:estradiol vs Premarin! I thought the Premarin was working OK, but it seemed like I could never find the right dosage for me! The estradiol is generic for Climara, etc...,right? It is oral, not the patch.Better symptom control w/estradiol, fewer side effects? Please let me know, am hoping for the best, get tired of trying to find the right combo of med & dosage! Thanks in advance for your input! Sincerely Lori

Lori

Oral Estradiol is generic for oral Estrace. If the Premarin isn't working for you, than trying something else is certainly worth a try.

Re: Estradiol vs Premarin?

Thanks for the prompt reply, Kim! Researching, I saw where Climara is the estradiol patch, duh! Sure hope the estradiol works, it's worth a try definitely. I'd rather be on HRT than not! Lori

Re: Estradiol vs Premarin?

After my abdominal hysterectomy (a few weeks ago) my body immediately went into surgical menopause. My doctor initially put me on Premarin. For 2 weeks, I took Premarin and only experienced menopause side effect if I forgot to the take the pill before 10am. Once I took it, about an hour later, the symptoms went away and did not come back unless I forgot it again. At my follow up 2 weeks later, my doctor gave me some Vivelle Dots .075 to try. The week I used them was hell. My body doesn't seem to respond to that method, so in frustration I went back on Premarin to feel normal. Unfortunately Premarin is 60.00 even with my insurance, and since I am off work for recovery, we are on a very tight budget. A good friend of mine is a pharamacist, and she suggested I call my doctor to prescribe Estradiol. She said she has heard good reviews on it from her customers, and for the price its definitely worth a try!

Re: Estradiol vs Premarin?

I had my TAH 5 years ago, but kept both ovaries. 2 years later had my left ovary out. 3 weeks ago I had my right out. The surgeon put me on the Estradiol patches and I LOVED them, but got skin rashes where they were applied for at least a week after I removed them (and they didn't stay on all that well). The only negative side effect was a lower back pain the first two days after applying the new patches that made sleeping nearly impossible. Today my regular doctor prescribed oral Premarin, in the hopes that the lower back aches won't happen any more. Maybe it was the "dump" into my system? I don't know...I was hoping to hear some positive feedback about Premarin. Thanks for your post! (The Estradiol and the Premarin are the exact same cost for me...I just REALLY hope I like the Premarin as much)
