what are the signs that hormones are needed?

My doctor asked me if I am feeling like I need to begin taking hormones. Since I have never been here before I have not a clue. I am two and one-half weeks post-op and I really don't know what I should be looking for. any help is appreciated!

Re: what are the signs that hormones are needed?

Most women who feel the affects of surgical menopause mention hot flashes, night sweats, moodiness, insomnia (this can be from the surgery too though), vaginal irritation and I'm sure there are more. If you're having any of those symptoms, you should mention it to your dr. It doesn't mean you'd need to rush into HRT though. Sometimes the symptoms can be stronger right after the surgery but then calm down later. I had night sweats for the first couple weeks but haven't had any since. If you aren't having any symptoms at all, then YAY for you and I hope it continues like that. Some women are really lucky in that regard.

Hi Bettielou,

Here is a link to the Too Much Estrogen, Too Little list. You could look at the Lack of Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone lists and see if you are experiencing those symptoms

Our bodies have stores of estrogen which get used up the first months after our surgery, so you may still be using that supply.

Wishing you the best of recoveries,

Kay
