I am So happy that I know about HysterSisters !

Before I got my hysterectomy date , I was vaguely reading posts as if what would happen to me was so long off and I didn't have to think about it much . At least I didn't have to connect to my thinking about my upcoming TAH/BSO . Guess what ! It just connected and all of the sudden it is REAL ! I have one month and one day to go and I just started realizing that this is really going to happen.

The posts that I have been reading and participating in have become so vividly real . Like black and white to color .I have count down numbers written on my calendar with this has to be cleaned by __________date and pre-op appointment on ____________ and this and that kind of groceries are listed on a sheet for pre and post op living . Plus I just made an expensive order of stuff that I have read will help the whole process.

I found out something else. Fear is starting to creep in a little. I hope to combat the little glimpses of fear by staying on the Pre-Op board and by reading postive posts. I don't want to be afraid , but I am. I know people have asked before, but what have you ladies done to conquer fear ? I do believe in prayer and trying to be postive , but THIS IS REAL NOW ! Am I making sense ? I guess it is kind of selfish on my part to post ideas of help for others when I still didn't know an operation date. Now that I am in the "have a date" club, I find that I am a huge baby .

Just sort of blabbing. Thank you for listening and as always , any advice is so greatly appreciated.

You aren't a baby to be afraid/ nervous about having major surgery. This is an unknown territory and winds differently for all of us. I suggest keeping busy preop and praying (if that feels right for you). Sometimes journaling helps. Be patient with yourself.

You are making so much sense. Please read Psalm 27 & Phil 4. And I pray that you will find comfort. You will be hearing more from me shortly.

Re: I am So happy that I know about HysterSisters !

It is just so scary waiting, isn't it? It takes over your whole life.

I prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed.....get the picture?

I talked and talked and talked....ok....trying to say that I was obssessed!

This next month will be the hardest for you. You will lose sleep, cry, change your mind, drive your family and friends crazy, etc. It's all part of the process.

I am glad that I had the time to think about it beforehand rather than having a week or so. I really learned a lot about me, God and life during the time. Believe it or not, this was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Not from the standpoint of no more pain/bleeding. I was fortunate not to have much pain and had grown accustomed to 7 month periods. For me, it was a growth experience and a faith-building journey.

The hysterectomy doesn't start when you have it, it starts when you find out you are going to have it and every moment and experience from that point forward is life-changing. I was facing the fear of cancer so I really had a lot to think about and I know you do too.

My advice to you is to be patient and understanding with yourself. Give all of your fears to God knowing that God already understands and is with you throughout this whole thing. Me, I was so scared being wheeled into the OR until I saw God sitting on the end of my bed smiling. I am not a religious freak! Trust me. It happened and it was the most real thing I've ever experienced.

Please join the upcoming pre-op chat. It helped me immensely!

You have come to the best site ever for support and friendship. The women here are amazing and so are you!

Take care and best wishes!

Re: I am So happy that I know about HysterSisters !

39009 ,

I am sorry , I misread your post. I thought it said "you are not having a baby " I am so sorry. I guess I am extra sensitive today . Just started aunt flo more heavily again from a long run of just spotting . I thought I was done . I have been close friends with aunt flo since April 15th and I guess she wants to stick around . Plus I had foot surgery yesterday and I am grumpy and not paying attention well. Please accept my apology. I am just so feeling sorry for myself today .

Sincerely,
Holly

Kishey ,

Thank you so much . I look forward to hearing more. Bible verses are so comforting. I have a bad habit that I need to break : I let my emotions get away from me and when I take my eyes off Him , I sink , just like Peter.

Re: I am So happy that I know about HysterSisters !

Oh my, I completely understand where you're coming from. This site is a god send for sure. I am scheduled for surgery 2 weeks from today (Oct.22) and the nerves are really starting to kick in. One half of me can't wait for the day to get this done and the other half is getting more scared each passing day. I really need to thank everyone who contributes to this site. I have been "lurking" here, reading all the info I can and learning so much. THis is my first post here, and now that it's almost time I am also getting scared too. THANK YOU ALL.
