2nd TOT surgery coming up

Had my hyst & first bladder sling 3 years ago. Hyst went great. Sling was new kind (didn't anchor to anything as I later found out). It eroded & I had it taken out 4 mos later. I have been incontinent since. Before the surgery, I just leaked when coughing or sneezing. I can't imagine the money I've spent on Poise pads, but thank goodness for them. I use all sizes for different activities & sometimes the super large don't work on brisk walks. After a few friends have had the tot done this year with very successful results, I am going to have the surgery again. My gyn is going to "tighten" things in my vagina (starting to fall ~ that's why I had my tav ~ prolapse) at the same time my Uro will put the bladder in. Suppose to be outpatient at the hosp next Mon but they may keep me overnight. Should be 2-3 wks off from work then light activity at my desk job when I return & the total recovery being 6 wks. I've nervous, but so ready to get this done. I see alot of good things written here & have been hearing good stories. Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

You are in good company here. I am having surgery next Monday as well. My 1st TOT failed not due to erosion but due to inexperienced placement. Subsequently removed. Now i am having a pubovaginal sling which will be attached to my pubic bone and rectocele repair. I will be preparing by drinking a lot more water and eating more fiber this week. Sunday will be prep day, clear liquids only.

Are you having this surgery done with the same surgeon??

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

Same surgeon. How about you? He is highly recommended by so many, esp my Internist who I trust. I know so many who have gone to him & had great success. I asked for a sign when I went back to see him & felt that peace. I will pray for you that all goes well. That's a great idea to fill up on fiber this week. My one friend she was very constipated after surgery. What time is your surgery on Mon? Mine is at 12:30. Wish it were earlier but don't want to wait another week. Mine is scheduled for outpatient at the hosp but they may keep me overnight. I kind of hope they do if it'll help with recovery.

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

I ran FAR away from my first surgeon. I love the one I have now. I am not sure yet what time I'm scheduled for, they will call me Friday afternoon to let me know. I am assuming it will be early morning. When they removed my sling I came home the same day and felt pretty good. This time round I will be staying two days because I am also having a large and difficult rectocele repair.

The pain meds make you constipated as well as the anesthesia tends to put your bowels to sleep so they become sluggish. I have horrible constipation after every surgery and so cannot afford that this time.

Good luck, keep us informed.

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

Where did you have your first sling removed? I am going to go see a doctor in St.Louis for a consultation to have mine removed.

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

Good Luck Ladies. I am looking forward to having appointment with Uro next week. I have done ok with my sling, however, I have urge incontinence, so I am looking into Interstim. Have tried all the meds with no luck. I have even doubled up on one and still having problems. Well enought about me. Just wanted to say good luck, speedy recovery and GREAT results!

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

Had the surgery on Monday. Stayed overnight. Problem with scar tissue from where mesh eroded previously ~ one clot burst & lots of blood but ok after that. It's Wed. I'm lounging around with some slight pain & soreness but ok. Glad I did it ~ just pray the sling is fine this time. Have to pee about every hour. Hope that is just due to surgery & won't continue to be so frequent.

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

Glad to hear that you are ok. I would love to lounging around right now. LOL! Really, with the surgeon knowing your history, I am sure he did all that was possible with the new sling to make it work for you.

Re: 2nd TOT surgery coming up

I didn't have any lower back pain. I had a vag hyst at the same time so was off work for 6 wks. The Dr told me my leaking was the vag healing (it weeps is what they told me). Realized it was getting worse after recovery time & that I was incontinent. Had sling taken out 4 months after surgery. Feel good about this recent procedure & just am spotting which is normal. Can't wait to go back to the Uro in 3 wks for a great checkup! Maybe you're "stiff" from surgery & doing alittle too much at once so feeling that pain. Just take it slow & easy. I'd mention to Dr incase of infection (UTI).
