To keep cervix or to let her go?
I know this has been asked before.
I am in the process of doing searches.
Any who would like to share, I welcome your posts and experiences.
GYN states that most women obtain no pleasure from cervix but the first 1/4 of vagina. On lube, yes the cervix produces mucus but the vagina "sweats" lube the whole time. Should not be an issue with an ovary left.
thanks in advance

Re: To keep cervix or to let her go?
I thought I was able to edit posts before... but can't seem to figure it out now... anyway.
GYN pointed out that I wouldn't need annual PAPs without a cervix, which honestly I see as a perk.

Re: To keep cervix or to let her go?
Hi
I used to be one who said, "If it's healthy, why remove it?" However, my thoughts have changed.
Half of my cervix was left because of difficulty in removing it, and it looked very healthy at the time of my surgery. I had my hysterectomy because of adenomyosis and fibroids. Unfortunately, now I have fibroids growing on what is left of my cervix.
The cervix is not a separate organ, it is part of the uterus. Whatever is causing you problems with your uterus, can affect your cervix later. Having your cervix removed is another major surgery and a recovery similar to a hysterectomy recovery.
Concerning the PAPs, many continue to get vaginal vault exams because of the risk of vaginal cancer.
Another thing to consider, if you are keeping an ovary and your cervix, are mini periods.
Continue to research, and make the best decision for you.

Re: To keep cervix or to let her go?
Well... the PAP thing is controversial. I had my cervix removed with my hysterectomy in 2002, and have had a PAP every year since. However, now they're called "vaginal vault smears". It is still possible, though much less likely, to get cancer at the vaginal cuff area after the cervix is removed.
Most women do not get pleasure from the cervix during intercourse, and may even find the sensation of having it 'bumped' painful. The exception is that some women enjoy that sensation and may miss it if the cervix is removed.
I notice in your signature that you have been diagnosed with adenomyosis... that is a condition of the uterus, of which the cervix is a part. Have you asked your DR what the implications are vis. that condition if you keep your cervix?
