Starting Bi-Est 10 years Post op - questions!

Hi

I had a hyst 10 years ago due to stage 4 endometriosis. Dr wanted to put me on premarin, but I found a FNP who was "into" bio identicals and started Tri-Est w/progesterone troches. Well, since the hysterectomy I gained 70 pounds and my libido is gone. I am talking I could care less physically if I ever have sex again. My husband had been very patient. My FNP did prescribe testosterone cream at one point but it did not help. Then she just gave up on me. I asked her to do hormone testing and she just blew me off- told me woman are busy and sometimes we just need to "do it" (sex) even if we are tired!I should add that I am hypothyroid- on Synthroid - and did have a couple of on/of years of mild antidepressants. I have been off the anti depressants for two years now - worked with a counselor to figure our that it was not depression - just low self esteem issues from a crappy childhood - so emotionally I am feeling great except for the weight and libido issues. So, I found another FNP who is highly regarded in our area for her work with bio identicals, etc. She tested all my hormone levels and everthing was very low, cervix was atrophied, etc. Yesterday I started the cream form of : BIEST/PROG/TEST/1/25/2MG/0.1ML apply 0.1ML twice a day to labia. I feel silly that I did not really think of questions to ask of what exactly to expect to feel ! My main concerns are the low libido, not sleeping well, weight, and forgetfullness, ocassional night sweats. She also put me on 3mg melatonin several weeks ago - before I got the test results back - and that really helped with sleep. My DHEA levels were also low so she put me on 25mg DHEA capsules 1 time per day. I go back in a month to see how I am doing. I guess my question is: since all my levels were so low - what should I expect to feel in the coming days? Right now I have bronchitis so I am not feeling great anyways.
Two more questions - she mentioned if the libido does not increase we could try oxytocin (same as pertocin) - they are tablets that have an immediate effect on libido - I guess kindof like viagra for men. Has anyone used these?
Also, she mentioned thermography for breast checks - I have had a mammogram every year since my hysterectomy -as my old FNP said I was at HIGH risk due to the HRT (TriEst) and this FNP says I am not HIGH risk. She advocates every other year a mammogram, the a thermography of the breasts the year in between. Sorry so many questions! I am excited and nervous at the same time!

Re: Starting Bi-Est 10 years Post op - questions!

Hi and welcome!

I can't really offer you much about what to expect, but I had to tell you about the experiences my husband and I had with a Dr who had me use the labia for application with hormones. My husband's libido dropped to zero along with his actual "capabilities". After testing we found out his free testosterone had bottomed out. Unfortunately his estrogens were sky high. There is skin to skin transfer that can take place. He was put on testosterone which he was to rotate between genital area and chest/arm. I ended up with testosterone transferrance. Not fun! Also, when using any cream or patch, they tell you to rotate areas to avoid tissue saturation. There's only so much surface area to rotate! Be careful!
