Life isn't Fair

Hi All
I'm just looking for some mental support... I am just past my 6th Carbo/Taxol for recurrent ovca...I have a PET on Monday to see where we're at...if I will need to continue with some chemo or perhaps I'll be in remission for awhile.
But you know, right now I have more complications - my 6 year old daughter has been hospitalized in ICU for a severe pancreatitis....1/3 of the pancreas is gone (it digested itself) and it can keep going with damage. She has a couple of bloodclots also causing complications with her treatment - now on bloodthinner. This all started on Sunday - and no known cause. VERY rare for a child to develop pancreatitis and even rarer to have the complications like she's had that has caused the pancreas to die. Her treatment is very slow and will require a long hospitalization, maybe a month or more according to the docs.
What if I need more chemo? Do I just let it go and attend to my daughter? My husband cannot do it alone. We also have an 8 year old son. My treatments are in one part of the state, and the children's hospital is in another.
This blow is like hitting us while we are already down. My family is already struggling with my recurrent cancer - what more can we possibly take? I am in shock and handling things...but it's like I can't even feel anything anymore. I'm numb to this world and what is going on in it...

Re: Life isn't Fair

No sadly enough life is not fair Sounds like you have more than enough to deal with.
Sounds like lots of unknowns at this point.
Wishing you a positive result on your PET.
If you are to need chemo, perhaps with time you will figure out a way to
make it work.
Your daughter needs you now, but she also will need you in the future.
Look after yourself

Re: Life isn't Fair

Oh, sweetheart, I am so sorry for all your troubles. Old saying but a wise one, "that which does not kill us, makes us stronger".
You are a Mom, you are stonger than you know.
You are all in my prayers. And I want you to know, prayers make all the difference in the world. God Bless HysterSister.

Re: Life isn't Fair

PokaDot,

Looking back, it's always amazing to me to see how we get through life sometimes, but what I can tell you is that if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it. No matter what.

You need to make sure that you do what YOU need to do for YOU to ensure your health is as strong as it can be for your daughter.

I have dealt with a seriously ill child as well, and although I can't say the same for having gone through cancer at the same time, I can appreciate the worries and concerns of being there, having another child to care for while your other one is hospitalized, etc.

My specific prayer for you tonight will be to give you strength and hope for the best news from Monday's PET- and for the gift of wisdom for making whatever decisions you need to.

This is a time where some people around you will want to help, but may not know how to. Lean on the friendship and willingness of others and ask for support in any small way possible such as making meals for your family, bringing a coffee or tea by for your husband if he is at the hospital and you are getting treatment, etc.

Take it one day at a time. Keep a notebook and pen with you to jot down your worries and a list of things you CAN control and what you'd like to do-it may give you a sense of control in an otherwise uncontrollable situation.

God be with you.

Well **** it. I feel your pain. My son is five and there is no greater fear than having a sick child. I call "ditto" on what hoping 4happy wrote- it was well written!
