A Hysterectomy is NOT Public information:So why should everyone know?

Today started out being a good day. I accompanied my family to my son's baseball game. It was pretty cold out, so I stayed in the car, in the heat!! I was just glad to be there. I'm 3 weeks post op and I really haven't done much at all. So after the game I asked DH to take me to the store to get a gift for my Grandmother's 78th birthday tomorrow (10/18)...anyway, while in the store DH ran into someone he knew and he started a conversation, I didn't know who she was so I just said hi-then she made a comment saying "I spoke to her as if I didn't know who she was" and I looked at her and said "I have no idea who you are, sorry do I know you?" Then DH began to tell me who she was...I didn't know her-I know of her. So I continued shopping..the next thing I know, she's comes walking up to me and say "Don't stay out here to long, hurry up and get back to the house. You don't want to have a set back". I was shocked. I looked at her very stranged and walked away. I said to DH-did you tell her about my surgery? He said "yeah I didn't think it was a big deal." YOU DIDN'T THINK! Exactly. A Hysterectomy isn't public information. If I wanted her to know I would have told her. Now she's probably told everyone she knows that know him...that is my private business and I'm really upset. God only knows who else DH has told. I just don't want to share that part of me yet. Now I'm all emotional and upset. I just feel awful right now. Sometimes men and people need to just keep their mouths shut!

Re: A Hysterectomy is NOT Public information:So why should everyone know?

I am sorry. I totally understand. I am really young. 24. and I HAD to have my hysterectomy and I hate when people ask me "WHY?" and tell me "I should not have done it!" when I HAD TOO!
My DH is bad about telling the whole world also. And apparently he knows the whole world!
It is a private subject and I find it hard to talk about with people who I am not close with. I find it too personal for me.
So, I understand where you are coming from!

thank you, I'm glad someone really does understand. It actually hurts. I'm sorry you had you to have your surgery, and I am glad that you are better. I guess we both have obstacles to overcome. Take care Princess

Re: A Hysterectomy is NOT Public information:So why should everyone know?

I'm with you. Outside of this forum, very few people know I've had surgery (including family members). Prior to surgery, I told my boss and the person who drove me home from the hospital. The remaining folk found out only after I was released to return to work after seven weeks. I told who I felt needed to know on a case by case basis, and honestly, that was a total of 5 people. Now, if those five people told others? Well, I can't control that. What I do know is that no one else has come up to me to ask me about what went on.

My private business is exactly that - my business. I feel for you, KJLuster, and totally get what you're talking about...

*hugs* I am so sorry! I completley know you feel. I don't love it when DH speaks to women about his life at home really at all, much less the unpleasant stories...

I don't know if you have seen my posts replying to the constipation threads...but the remedy he gave me came from a lady at work! He told people I worked with I was constipated! I was mortified, and I feel your pain!

The reality is, they probably spoke about us with love, respect and concern, but ewwwww.....

*HUGS*

Re: A Hysterectomy is NOT Public information:So why should everyone know?

I have a thought, and I might be completely off base here... but I am trying to get inside his head (regardless of the moral implications of his disclosure):

Maybe your husband was talking with another woman about your hysterectomy because he feels like she would know more about your recovery than he does?

I suggest sending him to the "Dear Honey" forum if he needs more information or doesn't know how to talk with you about your hysterectomy.

Re: A Hysterectomy is NOT Public information:So why should everyone know?

I can so understand exactly what you sisters feel like - I am the same way. I told my brother and my best friend, after surgery I got a call from another girlfriend, so I told her that I was home recouping - she goes to bible study class that night, tells another 'friend' and she posts a note on my wall of facebook about taking it easy after my surgery. I ABOUT DIED! Why would someone put it right out there? Needless to say I was quite ticked. Now, this is a woman who should understand the reason of keeping things quiet.

I asked my hubby to keep it quiet because if he was in having his prostate removed - he wouldn't want the whole world to know about it. I do remember too when he had his vasectomy and how he didn't want anyone to know about it. So - hes been good about keeping in under wraps.
