Question - Please Tell Me What Works for You... Please Tell Me What Works for You...

I had my surgery Dec 1st of last year. I was put on Vielle Dot and I have not had hot flashes or anything...but I do not have ANY sex drive. I just got engaged this past April and due to get married next May. I would really like to get my sex drive back since my FH makes comments to me about how we "used to have a sex life" which is true...we just don't have one anymore. I am due to go to the dr's in the next few week for my first check up since my post op one last year. What do you ladies take to help your drive get back on track? My dr is a very shy type of guy (inwhich I am not even Sure how to start the conversation). Thanks for any info.

Re: Please Tell Me What Works for You...

Sorry your sex drive is AWOL. When we don't have ovaries we need testosterone replacement. Testosterone plays a big roll in sexual function. If you don't have your ovaries, ask your doc for a Rx for testosterone.

I get mine from a compounding pharmacy. They can make a cream with a small enough dose for women, no need to use a product made for men.

Hope you get some help.

Re: Please Tell Me What Works for You...

Hi!

I'm sorry that you are having problems with your libido. It's not an easy topic to bring up with the doctor but it's an important one. My doctor told me prior to my surgery that loss of libido was a possibility because my ovaries were being removed, so I knew it was a problem he was willing to help with if it happened, which it did. There are tips on how to discuss the topic with your doctor in this link: How To Talk to Your Doctor About Sexual Dysfunction Following Hysterectomy.

It's good that you are doing well with your estrogen. That can be a struggle to get right! When you visit your doctor, mention the lack of libido and ask to have your free and total testosterone levels checked. That's a necessary step toward finding out if testosterone is worth trying as a part of your hormone therapy. In my case, levels were low which indicated that I needed to have that hormone. My doctor prescribed 1% compounded testosterone for me. Initially I used it daily and then was able to taper back as my levels rose. Now I barely need to use it at all.

Please let us know how your appointment goes, okay? I hope your doctor is willing to help with your concern. If your doctor won't help, you'll need to find one who will. Another idea you can consider is the Bloom Study, which is studying the safety and effectiveness of a testosterone product called LibiGel. Here's a link to more information: Bloom Study.
