menopause with ovaries at 41????

I had a hysterectomy about a year ago. Cervix and uterus went but I kept both ovaries. Now I am 41 and I think I might be going into menopause??? Have hotflashes, faint feelings, mood swings, etc.... Did this happen to anyone else?????

Re: menopause with ovaries at 41????

It sure did! I also had uterus and cervix removed, about 3.5 years ago. I am 45 years old. Just over a year post op, my ovaries stopped functioning. I am on an estrogen patch and progesterone cream. I couldn't survive without these! I suffered two months with hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, chills, mood swings and extreme fatigue.

Re: menopause with ovaries at 41????

OMG, me too. I just turned 41 and my hysterectomy around six years ago and everything went except for one ovary. The last couple of months I have felt wierd, depressed, stomach problems, felt hot a lot (not full blown hotflashes) and cried regularly - 12 hour crying jags. I flipped out, screamed and cried to my boss five times this last month. She started to avoid me and said she knew "Nancy was not Nancy anymore." But this made me feel worse. My brain couldn't remember how to spell easy words and I felt like there wasn't much hope going forward. This is opposite of my normal way of life. I NEVER CRY!
I went to the doctor and after tons of tests, she called and told me I'm in full blown menopause. I'm shocked! She said I could go on a low dose of estregin because I don't have breast cancer in my family. I don't know anything about this situation and wonder, should I push though menopause and get it over with? or if I take estregin, will it prevent the lovely symptoms I've read about i.e., stomach fat, wieght gain, and loss of fullness in breasts? My mother took hormones, then quit when the breast cancer stats came out. Now she is in prolonged menepause and it's been going on for over ten years.

Any advice or feedback would be sooooo appreciated.

Thanks,

Nancy

Talking - menopause with ovaries at 41???? Re: menopause with ovaries at 41????

Me too - but I'm 37... my ovaries have decided to get lazy and decline their hormone production 6 years after my hysterectomy. I've been having extreme hot flashes, no sleep at all, and mood swings for the last 4 months. I cant take estrogen because of my family history of breast cancer so I started Gabapentin last night. I slept without waking up for the first time in I dont know how long. I am so nice and cold right now I could just cry tears of immense joy!!! Relief!! Huzzah!!

Take what makes sense to you - dont continue to suffer!!

Re: menopause with ovaries at 41????

I am 46 and had a hysterectomy almost 3 years ago. I just recently had blood work done and was told my ovaries are still producing hormones. But my Testosterone levels were low. I feel hot off and on all the time, Like in my neck and chest area? Is this part of pre menopause? It's making me a little crazy. Dr didn't think that was menopause? I don't get it.
