uterosacral vaginal hysteropexy operation--heard of it?
Hi,
I am starting to look into another surgery, this one to correct my fallen uterus. I had rectocele surgery 8 years ago, and a couple years ago, I felt that old familiar sensation of 'something falling out, down there." I thought maybe the rectocele surgery had..worn out? but the gynocologist I went to (different person than the surgeon), said no, the rectocele looked good. Now it was the uterus itself.
On line, I came across a surgery called a "uterosacral vaginal hysteropexy operation". It sounds like it combines a lot of good features. A doctor wrote:
"My favorite aspect of this uterosacral vaginal hysteropexy operation is that it restores normal vaginal architecture at the same time it resuspends the uterus by re-creating the pocket, called the fornix, of the vagina where the cervix rests, leaving a normal vaginal length and contour. It also creates a solid anchor for repair of cystocele and rectocele defects below the uterus, holds up well over time and allows total correction of any prolapse combination without any scars or abdominal incisions. Over the past 5 years I have taught this operation to a few colleagues, and we are all equally pleased with the results."
Has anyone had this surgery? What have been the results?
Is it true, or too good to be true, or somewhere in between?

a suspension/sling sort of thing, for uterine prolapse
Hi,
I wrote a few days ago but re-reading my entry, I see I didn't describe the situation well. I have read about a procedure, called a Uterosacral Uterine Resuspension, which has several features that attract me (I am looking to repair an advanced uterine prolapse, and I had rectocele repair 8 years ago).
The procedure is done vaginally ( i like that), it would keep my uterus (like that), and uses my own ligaments as sling material (no artificial mesh). The article described the procedure as similar to the 'Manchester procedure'--if that sounds familiar to anyone--but with some improvements.
If anyone has had this procedure, I would love to hear from you.
thanks!

Have you discussed this type of surgery with any of your doctors? Is there a urogynecologist you could consult with to see if this type of procedure would be beneficial for you?
I think doing your research and looking for the least invasive treatment options for your situation is definitely the right thing to do!

Re: uterosacral vaginal hysteropexy operation--heard of it?
Hi,
I have a prolapsed uterus ( with no bladder problems) and surgery scheduled for Dec 17th, with a pre-op sonogram scheduled for the 8th.
I am 55 and have never had a moment's trouble with any of my "plumbing" other than the fact that is it is now drifting south--so I was shocked to learn that a hysterectomy was the standard fix. Thanks to this site I have learned of the problem with mesh (my surgeon suggested a bladder sling) and I am now looking at other options.
I wanted to share an excellent ( and recent article) I just found about alternative repairs which is easy to understand. I will keep you posted and let you know what my own surgeon says next week when I ask her if this would be an option for me. Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to post on this site.
I found it on urogynics.org/blog/2009/08/plumbing-and-renovations-preview-uterine-resuspension-and-other-hysterectomy-free-options-for-vaginal-prolapse/

Re: uterosacral vaginal hysteropexy operation--heard of it?
After being diagnosed with prolapse, I was able to get a consultation with a uro-gynecologist who specialized in pelvic reconstruction. I opted for the vaginal hyst.
Here is a link to the Prolapse section of our Resources Directory: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...=browse&cid=27
I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs
