Unexpected emotions
Well, I went to my pre-op appt yesterday all pumped thinking that I can get this done and finally start feeling better. I was in great spirits and it couldn't have gone better. Then, when I got home the deluge of tears started and I have no idea why! I can no longer have children (due to a brain aneurysm and strokes) but I was inconsolable! My husband thought I was losing my mind because this is something we talked about, researched, and decided it was the best for me. So, what's with all the water works now??
I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and if there is anything I can do to try to explain to my husband how I am feeling.

Re: Unexpected emotions
I haven't had mine yet, but wanted to offer support...
I do believe that sometimes we suppress our emotions... you've been researching options and making educated decisions based on your symptoms and available choices which probably left little time to release... the pre-op makes it all so real... no longer a research project.. and thereby, imho time to let the emotions flow...
You deserve and have earned the release so let it out... it's perfectly normal...
best wishes,
Kathy

Re: Unexpected emotions
Yes, please know that it is very normal. The rollercoaster beforehand is...quite a rollercoaster!
Your are processing much more information than you realize. You are going to have major surgery. That alone is pretty big. But also, I've found that it seems normal to re-go through other emotions that have visited us that have to do with our uteruses. I myself found that I was crying about miscarriages that happened 8+years ago again! It didn't make any sense to me, but it seemed like it had something to do with "getting rid of" the body part that I'd been through so much, physically and emotionally with.
Please hang in there. Know that this is normal, and be easy on yourself. It might creep up on you and get you when you least expect it. Tell your darling husband that the girls have let you know that you (and he) can expect some more emotional ness around this and just ride it out. Your mind is doing what it can to absorb the information.
(PS--- while I know that some women struggle after the surgery too, with the same types of issues, I was pleasantly surprised to feel none of the emotionalness about not having my uterus anymore. That surprised me more than anything else. )

Re: Unexpected emotions
Before my surgery, I had a lot of emotion about losing my uterus. I had my 2 kids and could not have more anyway because of other issues but I still had to mourn the loss of my uterus. You will go through these swings up to surgery and maybe some after. let it out! if you hold it in and dont release the pressure, then you will have to deal with it after surgery for sure and why add that to your plate?

Re: Unexpected emotions
I appreciate all of my new "sisters" support. I feel like someone has taken over my body. Then to top it off the dr office called today and moved to surgery up. It is in 5 days!! But I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who has gone through this!!!

Re: Unexpected emotions
It's probably good that your surgery is being moved up. I think the emotions are normal (I know that I had some meltdowns pre and post op). You are entering unknown territory no matter how much research you have done. Let yourself feel these feelings and know that you are not alone. Peace
