Pins and needles in upper thigh area?????

Okay...

Strange question ladies. Since my surgery my upper thigh area, well...more over to the side and just above my butt area was numb. Now, it is almost like pins and needles. I was soooo completely swollen (belly area) after my TAH I had a flat belly button...kinda weird. I am wondering if maybe that is the reason...due to the incission or just being so swollen my body is just reacting weird. I had my surgery on Oct 21...so I think I am healing quite nicely. I go to visit my doc on the 6th of November. But, this feeling is just odd. Any insight???????

I had a LAVH/LSO, but I am wondering if it's your skin reacting to a large incision? Also, what pain meds did you have or are taking? I had Dilaudin at the hospital and am still getting leg twitches. Also, when did this start? Have you been lying on your back in bed a lot?

Yep. Numbness and pins and needles. Me too. In my case b/c I had some lymph nodes removed in my legs. You are too soon to be exercising but moving helps -- walking and then graduating to stretching and exercising when ready. If still bothering you, remember to tell doc in Nov. Be well.

I am 7 weeks post-op TAH with removal of one ovary and advanced endometriosis. I had this exact issue on my left leg(ish). It was sort of above the thigh and below the waist on the side. I actually found the answer quite by accident when I was Googling "anatomy after hysterectomy" to try to get an idea of what things look like in there now. The very first site that popped up showed diagrams of the anatomy but if you scroll down there are other pictures and after clicking on a few and scrolling down and finding others I stumbled across one that talks about this exact issue. It is caused by injury to certain nerves in the abdomen from the positioning of the retractors during surgery. Different nerves cause numbness or weakness in different areas. I asked my doctor and he confirmed that this was the likely cause.

In the early days after surgery, for me it felt like someone had stretched a wide piece of clear tape tightly over that area of the leg but when I'd touch it, obviously there was nothing there and it just felt numb. As days went on I started to get the tingling, burning, pins and needles sensations. Drove me a bit crazy. I'm happy to report that at this point, it is almost completely gone. It only feels weird if I touch that area and even then it's nothing like it was.

Re: Pins and needles in upper thigh area?????

Thank you sooo much! I knew there had to be a logical reason, but it is driving me nutso! I have been up and walking alot, but if I sit too long I get a burning/pinching makes you want to cry pain right above my incission on the left side. If I lay flat on my back the pain goes away. It hurts so bad sometimes that I can hardly move my left leg to walk to the bedroom. It only happens everyonce in a while but I have to sleep flat on my back, or just lay flat for 10 minutes. Thank you for your answers!!!!!!!
