Question about meds--allergic to Metformin

Hello. I am a bit nervous because this morning I have an apt with GYN. I was not scheduled to see him until January but he said i need to come in because I am allergic to metformin. I was wondering if anyone else has had an allergic reaction to metformin? What is the next step to help pcos and insulin resistant? I am so sick and tired of meds. I am scheduled for an endo biopsy in January. Thanks for any input.

Re: Question about meds--allergic to Metformin

I don't have any first-hand experience with metformin, but I know several women have a hard time with it in the beginning and some just cannot tolerate it. There are alternative meds for insulin resistance, but none that are a one-size-fits-all, or without potential side-effects. A search for "metformin alternatives" may find you some info to ask your doctor about.

Hope things went well at your visit. Remember, a second opinion is always recommended when we are dealing with major health issues/decisions. If you haven't already, a visit with a (reproductive) endocrinologist may be a good idea for you.

I have a sister with PCOS and understand how complicated and frustrating it can be. Hang in there.

Sending gentle
Beth

Re: Question about meds--allergic to Metformin

I take Metoformin as well and it does not agree with my stomach at all. I told my endo and she told me that I have to take it. I said OK. I am no longer going to that endo and just letting my normal GP to take care of my hypothyroid and insulin resistance.

Good luck with your appointment.
