but they did not tell me about anything, like what if i do have cancer? what will they do if i do? what if it is not cancer, then what is wrong with me? and what is the treatment for cancer?

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

Oh sweetie- I'm not much older than you- I'm 23. But I know how scary it is as soon as you hear the "c" word.

Every woman is different, so every woman's periods and cycles will be different. It sounds like your doctor is just being cautious- which is GOOD!

And those endometrial biopsies are NOT fun, aren't they? I had to have one a few weeks ago but mine was normal luckily.

It could be you have endometriosis. If I were you, I wouldn't allow yourself to think past anything to "What if I have cancer?"

It will drive you INSANE! And you don't know anything yet, so it's really best to just stay positive and try not to lose any sleep over it. I know it's easier said than done, but calm is good.

You could also write down questions as you think of them, and bring them with to your next doctor appointment, so you don't forget any questions you may have.

If you are diagnosed with something, cancer or not, ask if there are any pamphlets or reading materials they can give to you to help you educate yourself.

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this so young, but keep your head up- it will all be okay!

Also, if they don't find anything, maybe ask about being put on birth control to regulate and tame your periods a bit. Are you sexually active? Have you been checked for STD's, pregnancy even?

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

Hi Just Curious....

Ok, so your 16, have you talked to your Mom,Aunt or maybe Grandma about any of this? Also if you hare having female issues talk to all the older women in your family to see what kind of female issues they have had, find out when they began menopause, as well as what age they started their periods so your doc has a complete family history.

Other than heavy painful periods what other symptoms do you have?

As for cancer treatment, I am not sure it would depend on what type of cancer and what stage.

I am 42 and have issues getting answers from doctors, I have found if I take a list of my questions with me and another person to help with getting all the questions out and getting the answers in words I completely understand is very helpful. So...know that it happens to everyone....

I personally find mayoclinic.com very helpful, it is very detailed but you have to stay calm while reading it, somedays I feel like I have every disease I read about...so remember only get information on what is happening to you....then make your question list and talk to your doc.

Keep us updated! You are not alone my prayers are with you!

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

When I was 15 Mum took me to the Drs cos I had very heavy periods. He tried to put me on the pill to regulate this. I spent the next 25 years with erratic periods, heavy bleeds, but I did not have cancer, and went on to have two beautiful children.

I would say a couple of things, a painful smear can be STD, if you are sexually active, and believe it or not they are very common and it doesn;t mean you've slept around. I caught chlamydia from my first boyfriend, we were together 4 years. My smear at 18 was unbearable which highlighted this, a course of antibiotics cleared it up.

Anyway, not all roads lead to cancer......

I'll pray for you. x

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

thank you all for your help, and i have one more question
if i do have endometrial cancer (this is what the doc tested for) what is the treatment

also some additional info is that my symptoms are not just painful heavy periods, i also have bladder inconsidence and only about 4 periods a year even though about 4 years ago they used to be normal, i also just get nasty-bad cramps all of the time and i don't know what causes the pain but i can't move while it is happening and i almost double over in pain sometimes, also i don't know if this is of any importance but my lower stomach is very large, larger than the rest of my stomach
i at first thought i had fibroids but now the doctor is kind of scaring me with this cancer talk

and as an answer to Jackaroo1223 no i don't have an std because i am not sexually active, also they never said anything about the pill

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

Ask about ovarian cysts. See about getting a pelvic ultrasound, you may even have PCOS with the swollen stomach and irregular cycles.

And cysts definitley could press down on your bladder. I had my right ovary removed because there was a large tumor on it last year, and I had to pee ALL THE TIME, and my lower belly was swollen. The tumor was not cancer though- I don't want to scare you.

I also currently have cysts on my other ovary, and have to pee a lot again and have just general discomfort in the pelvic area.

As another lady said- not all roads lead to cancer. It is very rare to have a gyn cancer so young. Does not mean it's impossible, but it's not always the cause. It could be another condition which is perfectly treatable!

Being a female is so fun!

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

Sorry you are going thru all this. 16 yrs seems awfully young to be dealing with uterine cancer, ovarian cysts, and fibroids. That seems like an awful lot for a young person.

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

oh dear. I remember being 16...it was awful, and that was withOUT health concerns. (although, pop music was great in 1984....hearing Prince's "when Doves cry" takes me right back... but I digress.)

the first thing you should do is take a deeeeeppppp breath! and then, remember that the internet can be a great tool, but it can also turn any sane, normal and perfectly healthy person into a hypochondriac!

your symptoms sound serious, and it sounds like your doctor is taking them seriously. however, it could any number of things other than cancer. you've rec'd lots of good advice above - esp about writing down your questions to take to the dr office. docs don't know what you don't know - at least until you ask.

good luck, prayers to you, and please be sure to update us once you have some answers. I know I won't be able to stop thinking about you.

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)

Hi, I pray you get the answers you are seeking. I can tell you that you could have endometriosis which causes heavy periods. Check your family history for cancer, there are alternatives to chemo these days, and there's other doctors who will give spend the time with you and answer all your questions. LOVE, a sister

Re: HI i'm a little confused (docs dont answer my questions)
