Medical Records

When you got your medical records (pathology report and your op report) did you ask your doctor for them or did you ask the hospital where you had your surgery for them?

The reason why I asked is because I just asked for my medical records from the hospital I had my surgery at and they are charging almost $3 for pages 1 - 10 and then $1.50 for pages 11 - 20 and then like a $1.00 for more than 21 pages if it is for person use. Do they not understand that we usually take these things to our other doctors.

Just curious.

Re: Medical Records

Hi,

I got a copy of the surgery report and pathology report from the doctor who did the surgery. I picked it up at my 6 week post-op visit , and there was no fee. K

Re: Medical Records

I also get my surgical and pathology reports at my doctor's office, and they do not charge a fee eiter. Try asking the doctors office. I know mine has electronic records and they are connected to the hospital and the nurse usually downloads and has them for me withint a minute or two.

Re: Medical Records

My doctor gave me a copy of my pathology report at my 2 week post-op appointment. She also gave me copies of the pictures they took while in there. Gross, but fascinating at the same time. I don't understand why you would have to pay for those...

Re: Medical Records

some hospitals charge (kinda like the courts do).... i would call your dr's office and ask if they can get the copies for you. some dr's may charge a small fee as well, so dbl ck w/ them (by small i mean less than $1/pg)
idk for sure tho bc the only thing i have even thought of asking for are copies of the pics bc like Christine said it's gross but fascinating at the same time... good luck!

Re: Medical Records

my reports were 60 cents a page from the hospital - and very interesting reading, too

I ASKED for a picture of the bits they pulled out - the doctor took one on her iPhone which then crashed (not because of taking the picture) - she was going to email it to me but she's not sure that it's recoverable

Re: Medical Records

I work at a hospital and medical reports are sent at no cost to any physician. If you want copies for your personal use, most will charge you for them since they were already provided to your doctor. I would recommend getting them from your doctor but even some of those charge for copying your records. Good luck!
