Stressed of the thought of surgery

Hi,

I recently had an ablation done in August and a month later began to have some light bleeding. My doctor said he would recommend a hysterectomy and I ageed. Today I find myself bleeding free for 5 days. When I contacted my docter he said I could either go ahead with the planned surgery or I could wait it out. He could not garantee me that it would stop for good.

I have no other symptoms of anything except I do have a 6 cm cyst on my right ovary, which I am concerned about, but they have no reason to be. I was planning on a partial hyst.

Does anyone have any thoughts about how I should proceed. I know its a personal decision, but really struggling.

Re: Stressed of the thought of surgery

Hi 11queen,

Many of us have been where you are now...including me...so you have found a great web site and a wonderful group of ladies to help you with your questions.

It can be a very scary time deciding what to do.

First off...have you considered getting a 2nd opinion?? I got two opinions myself and it is still one of the best things I ever did. Drs can give differing viewpoints.

Second...if you do opt to have a hysterectomy...possibly you are a candidate for a less invasive hysterectomy??? Check out the *Hysterectomy Checkpoints* link at the top of the web site. Click on it...and go to the *Pre-op* link and click on that and scroll down. It goes over the different types of hysts and questions to ask the Dr. if thinking about a hysterectomy.

In the end....just do what feels the *best* for you. That is what is most important.

Re: Stressed of the thought of surgery

I would strongly suggest a second opinion before having this major, irreversible surgery. For one, a hysterectomy is not a risk free surgery and you don't want to end up with worse issues than you started!

There are several options for helping with bleeding issues and I would consider them before having the hysterectomy. Besides hormonal medications, there are surgical options such as an ablation.

Wishing you all the best for whatever you and your medical team determine is right for you!
