i'm not really sure where to post this, i just have some questions (myomectomy)

hi i thought you girls might be able to give me some help
i am 16 and i thought for a second i might have endo cancer so i made a account here but i recently found out that i don't have cancer but i do have very large fibroids
my doctor told me about a couple different treatments but she said that abdominal myomectomy is what she says i should do to cure my symptoms (bleeding, pain, inconsidence) but that is all she said then she left
i am hoping you girls know somethign about abdominal myomectomy
i have a couple questions about this procedure (i would google it but i am not good with the internet)

is it painful?
what is the procedure?
how long will it take to recover?
what do they do to take out the fibroids? (this one scares me i am afraid to be cut open but my doctor does not like embolization or laporoscopic myomectomy)

thank you in advance for your help i know you guys are just god sent angels, i pray for you everyday

Re: i'm not really sure where to post this, i just have some questions (myomectomy)

I had a myomectomy 4 years ago. They removed 7 fibriods. If you want to research on the surgery, it is similar to a c-section birth. I think my surgery was 4 hours long. They carved the fibriods out of my uterian wall. You will most likely have a verticle incision but depending on the location of your fibriods. It will be a similar recovery as a c-section: 3-5 days in the hospital, 6-8 weeks total recovery. There are several books about fibriods that you might find a local library which may include myomectomy surgery.
Good luck, in my case my fibriods have returned and now after 4 years I am having a hysterectomy. Everyone is different but you need to be in contact with your Doctor often to keep an eye on your uterus.

Re: i'm not really sure where to post this, i just have some questions (myomectomy)

((just curious))

We do have information in our Resource Database regarding a myomectomy. The fibroid section also has information about the various other options for treating fibroids such as the Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE), Lupron, hormonal treatments, and more.

What do your parents think of the myomectomy option? Talking the situation over with them could help you with your decision.

Also, before choosing any treatment option, a second medical opinion would be very wise. Just because your doctor suggests a particular treatment option does not mean it is the best one for you. Not all doctors have the same skills and knowledge and thus it is best to consult with more than one physician before having any type of major surgery. Another physician may have the skills to offer you a less invasive treatment option.

I wish you all the best and I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this at such a young age. I hope you have a lot of support at home to help you during this time.
