3 weeks post-op ~ should I feel this tired?

I had my surgery the 9th of October. My sisters think I should be up and running by now. i have been taking my 2 boys : one to school and the other to daycare for the past week by myself and feel real tired. I took my kids with my mom and 1 sister to a church Halloween party and was exhausted. Should I feel this tired? I have finally stopped bleeding-spotting yesterday. When should that stop? Does anyone know? please lead me to a progress page or some more info?

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling right now, but it's still early days, I'm afraid.

A hysterectomy is major surgery with the initial and vital healing taking approximately 6 weeks, during which time complete rest is usually advised. Full recovery can then be anywhere from 3 months to a year. Please check out our <link> Post-Op Page, which is packed with information and articles, which will answer most commonly asked questions.

Try to rest as much as possible from now on since you've only this one opportunity to heal properly, and don't hesitate to contact your doctor if you've any concerns.

Sending all good wishes as you continue to heal!

Re: 3 weeks post-op ~ should I feel this tired?

My surgery (LSH) was the same day ... I did go back to work last week. By the time I got home each day all I could do was hit the bed. I was so beat!! I did notice that this week has started off a bit better, altho' the last hour that I'm at work is the hardest. It still seems to be in spurts for me, tho'. I know I still have a long way to go.

Re: 3 weeks post-op ~ should I feel this tired?

I had RALP/BSO on 10/12 and made the HUGE mistake of going back to work the 2nd week. My medical short term was until 11/23 but I felt guilty-I am now working from home and going in part time a few days a week. I started spotting again and was so tired. Plus once they see you at work, they think, hey, she's all better, and you have all your work piled back on your desk. I can manage alright around the house, but the whole routine of getting up, makeup/hair/driving 30 miles in heavy traffic, going up and down stairs-and so on...surprising how it tires you out. Feel like a toddler needing a nap. :-) Also stress can slow down the healing process

Re: 3 weeks post-op ~ should I feel this tired?

Hi Raspberry,

You're so lucky you're able to work from home! Unfortunately, I'm not able to. I really wish I could! (Altho' I COULD do my job from there, the powers that be haven't approved it.) I didn't have enough vacation time to be able to take off any longer - I lost some pay as it was. (I'd planned on waiting until December over the Christmas break - I'd have been off work longer - but things got worse and I had to just get this done.)

But everyone at work has been great. Only a couple of people actually know what I had done ... the rest know I had abdominal surgery (which can mean a lot of things ... lol ...). But they're making sure I don't do anything that I shouldn't. I've been really surprised (in a good way)!

And believe me, when I'm home, I rest!!

Re: 3 weeks post-op ~ should I feel this tired?

had my op the same day as you and have a friend tell me last week that i should be up and about and getting back to normal now. I listened and over the weekend tried to be 'normal'. and have regretted listening to her as i have been having really bad cramps and am sooo tired again.

My advice is to listen to your body and do what you feel you can, it will soon let you know when you've done too much.
looking after your kids when they get home is plenty and you should rest when you can.

best wishes

Re: 3 weeks post-op ~ should I feel this tired?

yes my mother tells me I should be fine cause she was ( 2 wks post-op wed) she dislikes weakness, whatever i am in pain and i listen to my body not other peoples opinions. We need to be gentle with ourselves, long term effects could be worse if we don't.
Take care, Tracy

Re: 3 weeks post-op ~ should I feel this tired?

Thank you so much for the reply. I thought I was the only one who had family members that didn't seem to understand. I feel a lot better today. I have an unexpected appt. today because I gave into my husband and had sex. Girls do not do this. I had a drink and plus my pain meds made me wonder if the new goods were really good. Wish me luck at the doctor. I feel like a teenager that is going to get in trouble for having sex too soon. Hope everyone is feeling good today.
