Another recurrence. Sigh.
Yes, ladies, it's true. New spots on the scans. This time in my pelvis.
They tell me bone mets are better than the liver met, or mets to other vital organs, and I guess I see the point. But new mets are new mets, and they mean no dancing with NED for me.
I went off chemo a few weeks ago because it had stopped working -- or to be more exact, my CA125 stopped dropping. My CA125 did drop some more this time, which is good. And I get to stay off chemo, which is wonderful! I'm starting month IV Zometa to strengthen the bones and provide a hostile environment for cancer cells.
I'm definitely in favor of hostility to cancer cells!
I also have to go get a mammogram to rule out a second primary cancer. Apparently breast cancer is more likely to develop bone mets than OvCa is? I'm praying that comes back clear. Enough is enough already!
I'm sure wishing the insurance company hadn't denied the PET scan. The vague references on my CT report to possible slight adenopathy in various places really bugs me!

Hi Sisc
So sorry to hear about your mets. I just read up on the Zometa, sounds promising. I never know what to say, but just wanted you to know that someone in Oregon was thinking of you and wishing you "the best", and I agree with you about the insurance companies.

SisC:
Sorry to hear of the new development. Hopefully the Zometa will kick it in the butt.
As far as insurance goes, you would think they would want to pay the higher price for the PET so that things would be clearer and maybe less tests all around... It will be interesting to see what happens with the new guidelines regarding mammograms and insurance payments.
Best to you... I just got the results of my mammo, and was holding my breath for the week after the test.

God Bless you and I'm sending you a big ole cyber hug from Missouri!! OVCA has many options for treatments for recurrances so I am sure that your team of Drs have some major "hostile attacks" planned for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for all to turn out ok with you mammogram and for this new drug of choice- Zometa- to kick cancer's a%$ once and for all!!

I have a friend battling bone mets from BC. I agree with you mets are mets. They all stink-no matter where.
Hopefully the zometa is a wonder drug.

Hi Sis - so sorry to hear of this recurrence, but glad that you are able to get on the Zometa which is a powerful treatment my Dad had for multiple myeloma cancer. Keep fighting!

Re: Another recurrence. Sigh.
It's a blessing that I'm not dealing with chemo right now. In the past 6 weeks we've lost our 4yo nephew to complications from swine flu, found out my chemo wasn't working anymore, found out about these bone mets, and this week we had a fire in our house after the flood from a pipe leak.
I'm up to my eyeballs in major life crises.
