The Tale of My Womenly Woes

I have known that I have fibroids since 2007 when I was extremely anemic and given an ultrasound. The dr just gives me a prescription for iron and tells me that once I go through menopause the fibroids will shrink (don't worry about that heavy bleeding and large cycsts - it's due to your age). Fast forward to 2009 where I am again anemic and have a lot of discomfort in the abdominal area. I have a CT scan in June and find I have diverticulitis - what a nasty infection. The fibroids are also showing up on the CT so my new OB Gyn Dr. wants to have an internal ultrasound. Well the three fibroids have grown and my uterus is the since of a 15 week pregnancy. Ob-Gyn dr agrees that the uterus needs to go while allowing for the cervix and ovaries to remain. I will be having SAH in early January. My daughter is 36 1/2 weeks pregnant so I want to make sure she gets through this before I go in for surgery. I have had 3 sections and a laparotmy for endo and ovarian cyst. I am curious why I couldn't have the laprosopic surgery?

To Hystersisters Fetching1,

It would be my guess that maybe the size of your uterus is too large to safely remove it laprascopically. You could call you doctor and ask for specifics.

Congrats on your new grandbaby .

Wishing you the best.

Thank you for your answer, I will have to ask the Dr if the my uterus is too large to perform the surgery through laparoscopic surgery.

Also thank you for the well wishes for my grandson. He already has 4 yr old twin brothers, and a 7yr old brother waiting for him. Four boys total - WoW

I decided to ask for the surgery in January to see my daugther through per pregnancy and also get through the holidays.
