hrt issue

so at my 2 week appt my dr prescribed estratest hs for me to take. His office is about an hour away due to construction.. so when i came home i waited till the next day to get it filled. We are military so i figured id just get it filled on base.. hubby took it in and they told him the company doesnt make estratest hs anymore and they couldnt give me a substitute. So hubby called the dr (hes only at that office on wed!) and left a message about it. By wed (yesterday) i had not heard anything so i called back again knowing he was in office that day. they called the pharmacy in the building and was told they had it and was not aware that it had stopped being made. so they asked i try a local place like walmart or walgreens. so i took it to walmart last night and was told the same thing.. they told us the company stopped making estratest hs and they couldnt fill it. so i called back again today and they called back well you can come here and get it filled to which i reminded the nurse i live in a different state and am an hour away. so now shes consulting the dr as to what to do... anyone else have this much problems filling a simple prescription? or have a problem getting estratest hs?

Re: hrt issue

Hi Christina!

Estratest in both forms, full strength (FS) and half strength (HS) stopped being manufactured by Solvay pharmaceutical company quite some time ago. I am surprised to learn that physicians and pharmacists in your area are so out-of-the-loop about this.

The generic version which I have taken for many years performs just as well as the name-brand for me. My pharmacist explained that the generic version of any drug is the same as a brand-name, except that it's manufactured by a different company.

I hope you can get the generic version soon. Tell your pharmacist and physician it's called "EEMT" for esterified estrogens + methyltestosterone.

Best wishes,

I think what is happening is they are expecting the pharmacy to fill it with the generic drug but the way its written they won't kwim? Ugh my dr is fabulous!! Love him! But his script writting sucks lol..
