uterine fibroid embolization

Has anyone done this v. get a hysterectomy for large fibroids? If so, how did it work out? I am leaning toward this v. surgery...seems like a good alternative. Thanks.

Re: uterine fibroid embolization

Hi spillerone

I had fairly small fibroids and seriously considered this option instead of a hysterectomy.

What kinds of symptoms are you experiencing with your fibroids? My understanding is that it can take several months to know if the UFE is effective. If you haven't done so already, I would suggest a good conversation with your doctor about this procedure in light of your own personal medical situation.

Whatever you and your doctor decide, we'll be here for you!

Re: uterine fibroid embolization

My girlfriend is scheduled for one on the 17th of December. We are in the Washington DC area and will be having hers done at one of the best hospitals in the U.S. for women. I took a look at it myself but seemed a little to risky for me. But I am me and she's her. We both had to make a decision and she chose to have that procedure done.

Condoleeza Rice had this procedure: http://www.fibroids.com/news-blog/20...after-surgery/

You can also read more about treatment options for fibroids here: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...=browse&cid=26

I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs
