Has anyone had a D&C before an ablation?

Hi!

My Dr wants to do a D&C before an ablation. He says because God Forbid he does the ablation & doesnt check for precancerous cells, it wouldnt be right.

I had a endo biopsy but he feels a D&C Should always be performed before an ablation.

What can I expect? Do I need to be put out?
Can it cause more harm (Heavy bleeding)?

Why did your Drs do it?

Any info is appreciated!

THX! :-)

Re: Has anyone had a D&C?

I had a D&C at the same time they performed a LEEP, I was out and the only thing I remember was some cramping after. Im not sure if you have to be put to sleep for it but I imagine so since they are dialating your cervix and scraping the uterus (what I understood) to be honest I dont know why my doctor did it, he went in to remove cysts from both ovaries and to burn the pre cancerous cells off my cervix. Good Luck with yours and I hope everything turns out fine

Re: Has anyone had a D&C?

I had a d&c at the same time they did my ablation. It was all done outpatient. They put me to sleep and when I woke up I was a little sore and had some cramping. I had to take it easy for a few days and then everything was fine. I had some spotting for a few weeks and haven't had a period since then.

Re: Has anyone had a D&C?

I had a D&C along with a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. All of the procedures were done at the same time on an outpatient basis at a surgery center. Besides checking for anything abnormalities in the endometrium, we were hoping the D&C would stop my constant bleeding.

If you are not sure if this is the best option for you, seek a second opinion or make an appointment with your GP.

Re: Has anyone had a D&C?

I had a thermal ablation. I had then put me to sleep because I don't deal well with pain and I didn't want to know what was happening. Best of luck to you!

D&C to R/O Cancer BEFORE ABLATION

My Dr says he NEEDS to do a D&C to rule out cancer BEFORE he will do an ablation? WTH?

I already had a biopsy.......he claims they are not 100% & said If he does the ablation and I have PreCancer, im dead. Didnt and still dont understand what he meant. He said then they have to take EVERYTHING out.

I was just frustrated & Left.

ANYONE have a D&C before the ablation for this reason??

Thank you, ladies!

Re: Has anyone had a D&C?

It is not uncommon at all for a doctor to want to do a D&C prior to an ablation. If there are cancer cells and an ablation is done, it can be very dangerous.

You might want to seek a second opinion if you are not sure about your doctor's suggestion.

Re: Has anyone had a D&C?

I had a d&c and hysterscopy to check for cancer, look at my fibroid and stuff. They put me out. I felt great when I left the outpatient procedure later that day.

By the time I got home I was a bit tired but they had also given me Vicadin and Motrin. I took them and slept and watched movies. Ended up my friend came from out of town and we just had a girls movie weekend type thing. (Of course hubby and daughter were there too.) But it was fun and probably not necessary as for as healing but it was a great time.

My next period wasn't different.

From what I understand one of the most common symptoms of cancer is abnormal bleeding. If you have the ablation you may not have the bleeding they probably just want to be safe.

I also agree in 2nd opinions. Best decision I ever made so far on this journey. Not so much as the diagnosis the trust and confidence I have in my new gyno is like winning the lottery.
