Post-op Vaginal itching

I am 5 weeks post op (laproscopic) and the past 2 weeks have been experiencing episodes of vaginal/labia itching. I first thought, yeast infection but then it goes away sometimes for a whole day. Thankfully I have my 6 week post op appointment next week, but just thought to throw this out there. Otherwise post op is going great.

Re: Post-op Vaginal itching

You should ask your DR when you go,but maybe in the meantime a sitz bath will calm things down.

Re: Post-op Vaginal itching

I am sort of afraid to do a sitz bath with the "no bath" instructions for 6 weeks?? I read somewhere it may be due to dryness vs yeast?

Re: Post-op Vaginal itching

I was diagnosed with a yeast infection yesterday. I called my doctor's office to see what I could use, since nothing in the vagina, for 8 weeks. The nurse said I would need to be seen to make sure it was yeast and not a bacterial infection, of course I was right a major yeast infection. I was prescribed Diflucan. Also, for me the itching would come and go, so I asked my DH to look, and he said it looked like yeast, that prompted the phone call to the dr office.

Re: Post-op Vaginal itching

The itching could definitely be due to dryness. Did you have your ovaries removed? I didn't and I had periods of itching around week four. It's gone now. Hopefully it stays that way.

Re: Post-op Vaginal itching

Thanks for the responses - very helpful. I did not have ovaries removed. The itching seems to occur more toward the end of the day/early evening when I am winding down just watching tv? It's not so terrible that it drives me insane, but definitely an issue. If it get's worse I will call my Doc - otherwise will wait till my appointment next week - just 5 days from now. Thanks Ladies!

Re: Post-op Vaginal itching

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. My DR told me sitz baths were okay-the amount of water is small and the idea is to soak the outer area, not for the water to go inside. In a tub, there is a lot of water and if if the water goes in,it could cause an infection.Hopefully by now you have been seen, and have an answer.
