Hard Time

My name is Beth and I had a lap asst vag hysterectomy. The Dr. said the surgery went beautifully and when she went back to check everything out she noticed a leak. She had to call in a Uriologist to find the problem. Apparetly she accidentally cut 5cm on my bladder. They had to cut me vertical from belly button to pelvic bone, take everything out to correct the mistake. Because of where she cut me, I almost came out without a bladder. They were able to fix it, they hope and I awoke with a huge painful cut, 3 catheters and a j pak drain. The one night in the hospital turned into 5 and now I have a catheter for 30 days and then tests before they will remove it. The catheter is in my Vagina, is that normal? They were able to take out the 2 smaller catheters the day I went home as well as the Jpk drain. I am very sad, hurt, can't get comfortable and so uspet that this happened, they never even warned me of this. I have had no prior surgerys, had my 2 kids vaginally so there were no scar tissue or anything. Has anyone heard of this? I have about 30 stapes that I can count, I wasn't even suppose to have a cut!!

Re: Hard Time

Hello, Beth!

I'm sorry that your bladder was cut during surgery. Unfortunately, it is one of the many risks of surgery and you're not alone in having had that happen.

Please feel welcome to post for support and to ask questions during your recovery by starting new threads over on the Post-Op message board. Those who can relate will be able to respond to you there.

I'm sending best wishes and hope you feel better soon.
