Possible Ovarian Cyst Rupture - 4 wks Post Op (TVH)

Hi all! I had a TVH on 11/11. My recovery went pretty well except for a pesky bladder infection the first week which I hear is normal.

I was released to go back to work on 11/30 which I did. I was pretty tired the first few days but I did work my way back into it. I've felt really good until last night and that all changed.

I went out to dinner with my mother. On the way home, my stomach started feeling crampy like I had to use the restroom so when I got home I went to the restroom. I was able to use it without problems. After leaving the restroom I was changing into my pajamas and started experiencing the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. It was very low. It was a stabbing pain right above my pubic bone. It was so bad that it doubled me over and I would stay that way for the next 2 hours. I was finally able to get a little relief after taking a percocet. I experienced shooting pains throughout the night.

I got up and went in to work (I have a desk job with intermittent standing and walking). The more I moved around the worse I started to hurt so I called the Dr. at 9 and was told to come in this afternoon. After a pelvic exam, urinalyisis, and ultrasound, he told me that he thinks I had an ovarian cyst that ruptured (probably last night when I was in so much pain). He wants me to come back in tomorrow morning at 9:15 just to be checked again.

I am still experiencing some shooting pains although not nearly as bad as last night but stil uncomfortable. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything like this?

Sorry this was so long and thank you for taking the time to read it.

yes, I used to experience something similar because I had recurring cysts (always on my left side) that would rupture (it really hurts). My doctor had to drain a cyst on my left ovary during surgery.

This has happened to me. If it was a cyst you still will have pain for a day or so after. Hope you feel better soon

So I'm assuming he's not concerned about a hematoma since he didn't mention that, but take it easy just in case. (I'm obviously not a doc., so your doc. i"m sure is right...just sounded like similar symptoms.)

Take care,

Oh, brings back such memories, and I soooooo feel for you. At least once a mth, normally w/my period, I would experience this. It was getting to be two times a mth before surgery. It is the most aweful pain/experience. I would take meds and get a heating pad and was bed bound. I always had them on my left side, and it always help to lay on my left side, seems like it took the pressure off. I don't know if I would say I was "sore" for the next few days as just being really tender, and it would hurt when I walked. When they took my left ovary, it was covered in cyst. I asked him, if they were water cyst, and he sd yes. These types of cyst, had them all my life, since puberty, build up and them bust. The whole process starts up again. Did you keep one or both of your ovaries? I wish you the best. Did the ultrasound show anything? What made him think you had that, was it just from the pain you were experiencing? Best of luck, let us know, K?

Horseslover: He said the ultrasound showed what looked like a cyst that had ruptured and he saw liquid or something. I just find it strange that I never had this problem until after I had my hysterectomy. Makes me wonder if there is some kind of correlation.

I hope it never happens to me again. The pain was unlike anything I had ever felt before. It really frightened me because I thought I had done something to pop an internal stitch or something although I didn't know what.

I am still feeling "crampy" (I guess is the best way to describe it) today but he said that would subside in a few days. He did bloodwork and said I showed no signs of infection and he didn't see anything around the cuff that would cause him concern. I feel confident that he checked everything he could to make sure I am okay.
