Ovarian Remnant Syndrome

I have had it all, so it seems. I had a hysterectomy in 2005 because it was full of tumors and cysts, no cancer and not an easy surgery. I started to get cysts on left ovary within the year. I had a complicated cyst removed in 2007 and wanted ovary out...but made the decision to keep it. Starting getting cysts again within the year. I had my left ovary removed in December 2008. My ovary by this time was pulled backwards and encased in scar tissue which was attached to my colon. Surgery was not nice! They said my right looked okay, had some adhesions but they freed it. I really pushed to have it out. In February 2009, I had a 6cm cyst. I had my right ovary removed in April. I started having pain again in August, but ignored it because I thought I was crazy! Could not stand the pain, and went for an ultrasound in November and I had two cysts from a piece of ovarian tissue left behind on the right side! Went for an MRI and it showed one ovary popped (sick for two days) and one grew double in size to almost 6cm. I had lap surgery scheduled, but now they tell me that they may have to go in for a full surgery because it may be too close to uretha or colon. I am so angry. I will have yet another 6 week recovery time.

I am on estrodol(sp)and it helps with menopause, but causes me to lose weight...25 pounds! I lost another 7 the two days I was sick from the cyst that popped. I can't lose any more weight, but because of my job I don't think I will be able to have surgery until June. I want to cry, but can't. I want to scream, but no one listens anymore. So I am just mad.

Surgery

I am so scared that I have more adhesions than what they can see on MRI and ultra sound. I think this may be why they want to schedule me for the big surgery instead of a lap. (sorry, don't know what it is called.)

Re: Ovarian Remnant Syndrome

Judy,
Hang in there girl. Your time is coming and I pray they get the whole **** remnant! Make sure they take the tissue all around the remnant so no cells will be able to grow. I wish I was having mine in 10 days! I have moved mine to March 17. We have had some weird stuff happening. Seems that during my first surgery, they used internal staples and that doc stapled my ovary to my pelvic wall. So, I have an ovary remnant!

Please let me know how your surgery goes! Stay strong and it is okay to scream and cry! I am with you.

Re: Ovarian Remnant Syndrome

YES I HAD SURGERY JAN 4THA ND HAVE BEEN RECOVERING AND ALREADY WENT BACK TO WORK BUT ONLY 4 HOURS A DAY AND I AM NOT DRIVING.. SURGERY WENT WELL I OPTED FOR THE FULL HYSTERECTOMY REGARDLESS EVEN IF THEY FOUND NO CANCER ONLY BECAUSE I HAD CANCER 9 YEARS AGO.. BUT THANK GOD THEY DID A PATHOLOGY REPORT RIGHT WHILE I WAS OPEN AND IT CAM OUT NEGATIVE BUT BECAUSE THE SIZE AND TISSUE OF THE TERTOMA HE SENT IT FOR MY PATHOLOGY TO BE 100% , SO FOR THE 2 DAYS IN HOSPITAL WERE AGONIZING BECAUSE I WAS STILL IN LIMBO, BECAUSE MY DOC DID SAY SECOND PATH REPORT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND IT ALSO CAME OUT NEGATIVE, IT WAS A TERTOMA THE SIZE SMALLLER THAN A VOLLEYBALL WITH HAIR AND TEETH.. GROSS I KNOW.. TAKE THINGS SLOW AND BE PREPARED FOR CRAZY EMOTIONS, FOR ME ONCE I STARTED THE BIRTH CONTROL FOR HORMONE REPLACEMENT I FELT MORE LIKE MYSELF THE FIRST 3 TO 4 DAYS ARE THE HARDEST AND I DONT THINK MY EMOTIONS WERE DUE TO HORMONES YOU JUST GET TIERD OF FEELING PAIN OR BEING IN PAIN AND IN MY CASE I WANTED TO COME HOME TO MY DAUGHTER FAST SO GETTING UP AND ABOUT WAS MY GOAL SO I CAN GET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL.. SO WHEN WAS YOUR ORGINAL DATE? ..

Re: Ovarian Remnant Syndrome

Judy,
Glad to hear all is going okay with you! Back to work already? I thought you needed six weeks.
My surgery is scheduled for March 17, but I want it sooner. It is hard to schedule because I have three doctors: GYN-oncology, GYN, Urologist. They think they can get me in on February 24, but have not heard for sure.

Usually my pain is not until the end of the month, but I feel a cyst developing now! I had only a week of feeling good this month. The doctors always try to tell me that I am dealing with two things, one ovarian remnant (because they can see the cysts and I am not in menopause) and I have IBS! I have had many tests for this and have gone one diets in the past to rule this out. Each new doctor says it again. What is it with that?
I feel very nervous because I have read to many stories about misdiagnosed cancer thinking it was IBS! I have to stop reading these stories. Really, I just really want to have surgery now so I can get back to a normal like. Thank you for listening. I am so happy you do not have cancer! Life is great!

ya my doctor didnt know i went back to work and i have been lucky i am doing. good. i mean know one in the office lets me lift a finger and i just yell if i need something, i just go and do my thing for 4 hours from my desk.. but you need to trust your doctors and go with your gut. if u second guess your doctors then you need to go get a second opnion if at all possible.. everyone tried to tell me my problem 9 years ago was stomach issues and drink more water and it was a type of ovarian cancer and had i listened to them the who knows what could have happened.. not trying to scare you but saying listen to your gut.. hop eyour surgery goes well and i wil pray for you..
