Does loss of ovaries mean loss of skin elasticity and lines or can hrt prevent that?s

Have sisters who had their ovaries removed noticed a loss of skin elasticity and wrinkles developing (faster than is normal)? Can HRT stop this happening or was that just another lie the medics told me?
Seems to be happening to me and it's so very depressing.

I have not heard that it will prevent lines, etc. I think it can plump up the skin some, but I personally would not take it other than for hot flashes and some other symptoms that affect quality of life, as there are risks with hormones.

Thanks SuzyQ23,

Did you personally notice a loss of elasticity and rapid ageing to your skin following removal of your ovaries, causing slumping/lines etc?

Drink lots of water daily. It plumps up the skin and moisturize like crazy. I was on HRT for 25 years before my complete DaVinci. Even when on HRT I got some lines and wrinkes, but I see the water does help. Shirl

Red face - Does loss of ovaries mean loss of skin elasticity and lines or can hrt prevent that?s Re: Does loss of ovaries mean loss of skin elasticity and lines or can hrt prevent th

Sorry you lost your ovaries saygoodnight. I had mine taken away unnecessarily.

I was told I had extensive ovarian cancer and the only option was TAH/BSO but it was only endometriosis. I think it was resolving on its own as I felt healthy the day I walked into the hospital.
I'd aged rapidly through stress two years earlier and ironically it was while recovering from a facelift that I was told I needed the operation for cancer. I was told removing the ovaries didn't cause rapid ageing but it seems it does. How cruelly ironic is that?!
I've read though that DHEA, progesterone and pregnenolone are all necessary anti-ageing hormones. I was only given ERT.
Are you on HRT? If so, what kind?
I read about these three hormones in an article by Dr Ray Peat, an endocrine physiologist. He says pregnenolone is known as the "facelift hormone" because people have noticed this property.
As stress alone can age you rapidly, I wonder how many hysterectomized women are rapidly ageing as a result of this and not just because of hormone deficiency.
Stress aged me several years in a few months when I still had functioning ovaries...so I know it's possible. Lack of proper nutrition was a factor too.
Thanks Bridgegal, I'll try to drink more water!

Hi Briony -- you've been through the mill and stress surely does age you, no question about that. I use Vitamin C Oil on my face daily. It's expensive but seems to be working well. But who knows. I lost my husband to cancer 8 years ago and the stress of that was huge. And then I got dx'd with very early stage end. cancer which was taken care of by my surgery Nov.16th. But the fear stays with you as you know.I have posted this many times on this board. Walking on my treadmill daily does help the stress as other workouts do also. I wish you the best. I'll take a few lines on my face rather than the alternatives. Shirl

No, I have not personally noticed a loss of elasticity or rapid aging from my ovaries being removed. There are things like too much sun from past years, genetics and stress that will affect the skin and how we age.

I use sunscreen daily on my face, which is in my foundation or face lotion. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and exercise several times a week.

briony,
I'm so sorry you've been through so much.
I appreciate your information so very much. If I could I would hug you. I am only on ert. I haven't been under any stress...until surgical menapause. Prior to my surgery I was told that I looked 4 years younger then my 50 years....since my surgery my skin is aging incredibly fast, I have low libido and have been extremely depressed . I exercise everyday and eat well so I can only attribute this to an imbalance in hormones. Since my doctor has clearly been remiss in giving me information (from the beginning) I've decided to see a new doctor to discuss having my hormones tested to find just what I need... to have me back!
