going to the urologist..
ive been having problems for awhile now but they have gotten much worse and the last time i was at my gyn yearly he asked about leakage.. and i told him it was getting worse.. i cant run, jump, dance, cough, sneeze.. without wetting myself..sometimes even during sex i have leaked urine.. (soo EMBARRASSING!) if i cough i must stop in my tracks cross my legs and really really tense up or im totally messed up
i urinate ALOT.. and sometimes the urge hits and its like NOW.. followed by alot of urine flow. i also will go and then feel like i didnt empty my bladder.. i always feel pressure in my pelvic floor.
i also go to the restroom alot.. i probably easily urinate 10-12 times a day and get up at least 1 -2 times at night..
during my period its MUCH worse .. the pressure is horrible.. and i have a hard time withe tampon insertion.. its like it does NOT wanna go in the right place.. its like something blocking the way.. and i have to change every time i urinate or its painful..
my gyn stated that he would be recommending the Monarc sling procedure.. and at the same time he would do the hysterectomy ( i have really BAD periods and a family history of prolapse and i have mild uterine prolapse)..
my gyn.. stated that i had significant prolapse in my bladder.. i have looked at pics of the cystolele and mine are NOT that severe.. i dont have a huge bulge out of my vagina but i do have a quesiton..
how do i find out what the vagina is SUPPOSED to look like?? b/c i know the whole mirror and look thing.. ive done that.. and when i look.. i have a bulge in the back and a very pronounce round bulge in the front.. its kinda ribbed looking.. to be honest and totally EMBARRASSED.. its looks like i have a golf ball, then a ping pong ball and then maybe a gumball.. this is when i sit and kinda bear down some..
i hope all that makes sense??? i feel foolish.. but its not like i have anyone to talk to about this!
what can i expect at the urologist? will he do a pelvic exam?? who has had the monarc sling and how was recovery? also anyone had the sling and hysterectomy at the same time?? how was it.. did you have to stay overnight in the hospital or was it day surgery?
as you can tell im a little nervous!
any help.. suggestions.. etc. will be appreciated! now to read more

Re: going to the urologist..
 Gray -
I don't know if this will help you since vulvas do look different but this is from the National Vulvodynia society (not saying you have vulvodynia but best photo I could find) Vulva photo If you continue on with this link it talks about a vulvar self-exam which has sketches as well that might help you.
As for going to a urologist I have been seen by both a regular urologist (who did a cystoscopy - camera inserted into bladder) and also a gyn-urologist. She does regular internal exams and also understands the urology side of things. You may want to seek an opinion with a uro-gynecologist since they specialize in all the female anatomy.
I haven't had either repairs but I hope this helps.

Good description! That sounds what I look like with the mirror test. I have cystocele and rectocele as well as prolapsed uterus. I am not yet scheduled for surgery because my gyn keeps wanting more tests. I am on a waiting list for Urodynamics testing that will take several more months to get to. Meantime, my gyn sent me to a uro and he did a cystoscopy (and dilation of the urethra - ). Unfortunately I am allergic to topical caine drugs and had it without the lidocaine gel that is supposed to numb everything.
The urologist will likely set up an appointment for you for a cystoscopy.
I too have looked at the pictures of the prolapses, but mine does not appear to be as bad as some, worse than others. My gyn says I have severe prolapses.
Hope this helps a bit. If you have more questions, I'll be on and off today and tomorrow morning. I work nights so normally I'm on for a while in the mornings.
Hugs,
Suzanne

Re: going to the urologist..
Gray27
I'm not really certain if I remember what "normal down there" is.
My prolapses were diagnosed in April of 2008 following 3 surgeries in 18 months for pilinoid cysts (near the tailbone). I guess "normal" would have been back in early 2006.
Hopefully after all the tests are done and I finally have surgery I will be able to remember.
It sounds like you may have a combination of stress incontinence and urge incontinence. I try to keep track of the feelings I have when there is incontinence, but so far all that has been mentioned is the stress incontinence.
Good luck with your appointment and let me know how it goes!!
Hugs,
Suzanne

Re: going to the urologist..
Hi gray27,
I have the same issues...with the losing urine bit also. Had bronchitis for a month in May of this year following the flu and had to change my clothes all the time after "accidents"...worsened the prolapses as well I guess because had real problems after that also with other stuff, BM's and such. You description of a mirror exam matches how I could describe the way I look down there. Two bulges and one bulge resting on those (prolapsed bladder, rectum and uterus).
I have a urogyn...went there three times. First time the rectocele was diagnosed. Second time I was sent for a defecogram (dynamic Xrays) and on the last visit (which was later in the day, crucial) diagnosed with a prolapsed bladder and uterus also. For me, each examination is done by two doctor at the centre I go to. So...six times and internal examination (vaginal) and a couple of rectal examinations. I had no urodynamic testing though....and am not going to remind the doctor of that....
Hope this helps, you can alway ask any question if you want!
